Grading Ghiz

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters, who on Monday sent a letter to Cincinnati City Council members saying "Thanks but no thanks" for their offer of building a temporary jail, said he admires council members Leslie Ghiz and Jeff Berding for taking on the issue.

"I will give Leslie credit," Deters said. "She and Jeff are the first people at City Hall to care about this issue. She gets an 'A' for effort but a C-minus for the idea."

Ghiz and Berding will try to get their idea passed at a city council today, in spite of the county's cool reception to the idea. If passed, the motion would instruct city administratiors to begin negotiating with the county on the idea.

This is an excellent idea and Deters is just upset because he may not be able to conceal any contributions.

Deters the Cheater !!

If thirty five percent of the inmates are due to mental health or addiction problems than we need to look at alternatives toward more treatment centers.

It seems we shut down Longview and put them in jail now ?

More treatment centers would not be as expensive and better for society.

Once you reduce the population by 35% the new jail becomes moot !!

Help me with the math:

Less citizens
+
More police
=
more inmates ??

Lets try:

More citizens
+
hand up
=
more productive society ??

It is that simple, period !!

I have an idea: the liberals who think it is wrong to lock up some criminals can adopt them instead. Think of it as a foster-care program for criminals.

This post should entitled "GRANDSTANDING GHIZ" not "grading ghiz".

she knew from the start that this wouldn't work, but any chance to get her name in the papers. I wonder is this so that people forget that she promised to cut the pay of council once she was elected? I guess she is enjoying the extra paycheck now.

Deters is wrong on this issue and if anyone gets the "D" it should be Deters. If the jail building the jail is so damn important than the county commissioners shuold show some back bone and raise the sales tax. But, they won't - Heimlich and Deters are cowards.

The University of Cincinnati used such tents as temporary buildings. It took the neighbors less than a week to figure out how to cut *INTO* the tent...

I say that all the people in law enforcement over the past decade--including Deters, etc.-- get an F for both ideas AND effort. Despite billions invested in our system of justice, they've all failed, and seem to care less. THey only get mad when others propose new solutions.

here's a question i'd like answered, who's bright idea was it to have extra sheriffs patrol the otr at all times except the main time that murders are being committed between 2:30 -7 am? leis is a cowarrd . grandstanding during daylight and absconding during the time the real shit goes down... what a joke!!
what a waste of money for taxpayers

o:k - let's put low level offenders in the tents and have them all do work release - then ,we only have to man them at night between 7pm -7 am : no meals, no showers,no visitors,... heck, no weekends, ( give them a breathalyzer walking in and a piss test on monday) make them pay $30 per day ( or other appropriate amount to offset costs) , due their time, get a real job with taxes withheld,... repentand get on with it.

Obviously some of you have no idea about the tents. First of all, how many treatment programs does the city of CIncnnati have to offer its residents? Wonder why there are so many people in Cincinnati with problems, maybe because Hamilton county has the most funded programs. We dont need any more programs, we need jails. And since I am a Cincinnati resident I can say that I am sick and tired of the Hamilton County commissioners sitting on this jail idea. The only reason it is an issue is because Heimlich is up for reelection. What are his back up plans if the 1/4 cent tax fails to make the ballot? Duh, he doesnt have one. So we are supposed to wait for him and other other commissioners to solve this problem. They have had LONG enough! Leslie Ghiz & her staff did their homework. The tents are not like what was at UC. There are 2 of these exact tents used in OHIO as jails. Not temp jails either--the real thing. The issue that the sherriff and Deters has is that Ohio treats inmates better that law abiding citizens. They eats better, have A/C, TV, and their own rooms. WAHH! Lock em up, get them off my streets and out of my neighborhood and if you dont like it--go live somewhere else! CIncinnati needs a jail now. These temp jails can be built in less than 90 days. If Heimlich supported them...what would his campaign issue be? Leslie Ghiz gets a A+++ all around from me for taking on these political game playing fools.

When, oh when, will we hear from our mayor on ANY issue? Gambling, no position. Jail, no position. CityLink, no position (calls it a neighborhood issue, I guess it's beneath him).

Oh, I forgot, he raised money for pools with Chesley after his budget did not provide funding to keep pools open.

At least Ghiz is trying to move the city SOMEWHERE.

ghiz is a joke.

she's one who back ordinance 910-23 one of the worst culprits of over crowding jails. She has herown agenda and even when 100% of the people that show up to talk about something are against her personal preference(or that of those who fund her) she still can't see what's going on...

Hmmmm Crime rate sure is going down Leslie.... why don't you look at the facts, their not
