This is ridiculous. I counted maybe 9 or 10 actual Democrat sponsored events, the rest are just festivals and such. The Republicans list is comprised of clubs from all over the county, and many elected officials events, many of them affordable. The Democrats clearly need to organize a better base, their grassroots team is pitiful. The Republicans have it so easy, if they need to distribute signs they call one of the clubs in the area where it needs to be done, and it gets done. You don't have volunteers traveling all over. Its ok though, I'm sure the Democrats, which have long been known to pay many volunteers, are still doing the same.

It seems like the Republican party has a lot more Republican events than the Democrats.
They have clubs everywhere its really impressive.

I think some of those events could also qualify as Republican, particularly the Parish Festivals. I don't the Dems have exclusivity to them.

Kimball, you have to be really lazy to just cut & paste from the calendar and consider that 'news". BTW, any community event can be placed on the calendar so many listings are not "Democratic events".As for the 6:54 post, you'll see how many Dems live here when Ohio turns blue on Nov. 7!

Enough with bashing the blog writers. This is not a newspaper, it is a BLOG!! A WEB-LOG where they track politics throughout our area. No one is saying this is news, if it was news you could go to www.enquirer.com and view it. This is a BLOG!! I for one appreciate the non-news worthy blog because the information they provide is sometimes hard to find. Get over yourselves, it's not news.

We know any community event can be placed on the calendar. But the embarrassing part for the dems is that the Republican parties list is just as long and full of non community events. Pitiful grass roots = pitiful turnout = small gains in '06.

It always amazes me that the Democrats think the Republicans have this well-oiled juggernaut of a machine. I guess it helps rationalize their failures.

My Republican friends tell me that these clubs average 20 people a meeting and most of them are too old to put out yard signs.

It is not uncommon for the featured speaker (usually an elected official, candidate or party chairman or staffer) to be the youngest person in the room.

Then again, I suppose that's better than nothing.

at 11:58 AM, August 30, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Too old to put out signs. Exactly what is "too old" to put out signs? And do signs really win elections? What about the thousands of phone calls these clubs put out every month for the party? Where are the Democrats that are doing that?? They may have 20 or some odd people, but when 20 people make 250 calls a week each, those numbers add up. Especially for the amount of clubs there are.

The fact of the matter is, based upon a public calendar of events, the Republicans are a juggernaut compared to the Hamilton County Democrats. Organization is key in elections, being able to pin point locations and reach the voters you want to reach. Bush-Cheney '04 was a prime example of this and it is the reason President Bush sits in the White House today.

Thank you to the Enquirer's blog writers for showing it's not blogging and protests that win elections, but grassroot support and reaching the people one on one. When will the Democrats learn?

Re: anonymous' 11:58 comment...
Bush sits in the WH ONLY because the SCOTUS stopped the FL recount in 2000 (can you say States' Rights, righties?) and then, by the smallest possible margin, 5-4, APPOINTED shrub President. ONE VOTE! NOT a landslide, righties. You cannot argue with facts. Oh, wait...only faith-based points are allowed on your side of the aisle.
SCOTUS is so ashamed of their action that they did not define it as a written and signed opinion, but rather, a "per curiam" decision, meaning it cannot be used as precedent.. Read the dissents by Stevens and Ginsberg if you really want a "fair and balanced" (with a snicker to Faux News) view of this "legal" outrage.
So, righties, get real and recognize that your boy GWB, is there ONLY because of Scalia and Thomas, NOT because the citizens of the USA elected him. IMO, the 2004 results are suspicious as well.
Besides, Cheney and Rove run him like a marionette which has a tough time even reading a teleprompter, much less answer unscripted questions. Or appear in unstructured venues. Welcome to fascism, people.
Now comes Kenny Boy Blackwell with plans to privatize everything from the Ohio Turnpike to education. There are countless examples of this being merely a method for funneling funds to right-wingers, both politicians and business owners who can then buy ever more vacation homes and
gas-guzzlers.

at 2:16 PM, August 30, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

The point was about grassroots support billo. If voters were never there the recount wouldn't have had to happened, and lets not talk about the media's role in the 2000 election. I think some of your lefties are looking for some billo-jobs, you and slick willy up in harlem may be able to help them out.

Will Nate Noy's Democrat puppet masters host a fundraiser to help him pay the fines imposed by the OEC after his claims against Jean are thrown out?

Maybe the moderator will let this one past; apparently
the first try was rejected...
----------------------
2:16 PM, anonymous - you don't rebut any of the points I listed. Because there is no possible retort? The electoral college, deeply flawed though it may be, is what matters in Presidentials, not the number of Taliban-like religious reich-wingnutz (in that they want to impose their beliefs on all others, no matter that they could be "in error") who might comprise part of Republic grassroots. Can you say faith-based payoffs to pastors of all stripes and colors who are
bought off by diverted funds? The corruption is blatantly apparent, if one merely opens one's eyes and ears...that is, if one is not too closed-minded.
If you've any substantive points, I might respond...otherwise please go back to listening to the 700 Club, Hannity and Limpballs. Oh, yeah and keep reading "The Weakly Standard." Pitiful.

at 9:18 PM, August 30, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

There were little points to rebut considering I discussing the base of the Hamilton County Republican party and you chimed in with your conspiracy theories about Florida and Ohio which probably wouldn't exist in your mind if the man you wanted to be elected, was elected.

Now on payoffs and such, I don't buy into it. I, as a volunteer and now staffer, have never seen a payout especially not to a pastor. Your image of the Republican party is very tainted but some weird hatred towards us. I go to campaign events, and volunteer events, and work with people who have been involved in politics all their lives and hardly ever see fundamentalist attitudes. Most the people like to go out and drink, will skip church often, and use foul language. Does that sound like a fundamentalist? Republicans like to stand for what they believe should be and should not be in society. I don't base my beliefs on any religious teaching but rather what I feel society should stand for, and what it should never tolerate. Breaking down the moral backbone of our nation would tear down everything it was built on. No foundation and your house sinks. If we break down our moral backbone, whats next? Our Justice system? Our constitution itself. I can guess your next reply will be "No Bush already took that away" But in reality the consitution was formed with rights given to the President to protect our nation even outside of his judicial territory and I'm grateful he did.

Basically your theories about the crazy, weird, outrageous, and fundamentalist Republican is wrong and I think you need to open your mind to more than the television.

Will Nate Noy's Democrat puppet masters host a fundraiser to help him pay the fines imposed by the OEC after his claims against Jean are thrown out?

No, html impersonator.

Although Dems should benefit from the wRong wingnuts slinging elephant dung at each other, no Dem would associate with Mr. Annoy, period.

He can't even get his own dates right regarding his resume' and his own press release !

So, all the wRongwing nuts are liars !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2006

9:18, 8/30 - anonymous:
I agree with some of your points...that the majority of reich-wingers are not quite raving fanatics. However, the FACT IS (as Kenny Boy Mehlman is so fond of prefacing his lies with) that shrub has the approval of ONLY about 1/3 of the country. That means that TWO OUT OF THREE Americans see through the BS that he puts out on behalf of the neo-cons, AIPAC (yes, I'm waiting for the anti-Semitic flames...), the "energy" lobby (read Texas and Saudi pals) and the 18 richest families who are trying to delete the so-called "death tax." If you, anonymous, cannot accept the truth of the above statements, our little exchange is over. Buh-BYE!
