Hoyer: Cranley-Chabot makes the Dem top ten list

Rep. Steny Hoyer, the Maryland Democrat who is House minority whip, came to Cincinnati Thursday with a message that would seem to dispel the rumors that the national Democratic party has been losing interest in John Cranley's campaign to unseat Republican Steve Chabot in the 1st Congressional District.

"This is one of the top 10 races for us in the country,'' said Hoyer, who spent time with Cranley Thursday at the Laborers Hall in Evanston and at fundraising reception in the downtown law office of Hamilton County Democratic Party chairman Tim Burke.

"We've got a great candidate and we are going to win this,'' said Hoyer, a former chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Hoyer said Cranley's challenge will be "make the people of the district see know that re-electing Chabot means more of the same.''

After touting Cranley on the Ohio side of the river, Hoyer crossd over into the Commonwealth of Kentuckyto attend an event for Ken Lucas, the former Democratic congressman who is trying to unseat Rep. Geoff Davis.

Lucas isn't quite as high up the list as Cranley apparently. Hoyer said the Lucas-Davis "ranks in the top 20'' of House races for the Democrats.

While Rome burns John Cranley is out raising political cash.
If you haven't noticed Councilman Cranley, our city is dying while you try to further your political future at our expense.
Instead of having lunch with your Democrat friends, why don't you work for a change and try to solve some real local problems?

Yeah! No Cincinnati City Councilman should ever run for another seat because that will inherently mean they are trying to further their career at the people's expense....

I guess that means that no City Council members are allowed to move on!

And for the record, CHABOT RAN FOR ANOTHER SEAT WHILE HE WAS ON CINCINNATI CITY COUNCIL AS WELL.

Get your facts straight. You Republicans are sure trying to come up with creative ways to attack Cranley. How about focusing on his political views like you are supposed to?

The race is going to real close if the other side has resorted to this.

Anon 11:32, I think Cincinnati was in slightly better shape when Chabot was on Council than since Cranley has been on. Having done well by the people of Cincinnati, Chabot and many others in both parties had a respectable record to run on when seeking other offices.

Want to compare population figures, jobs, job growth, and the city's finances from 1989 (Chabot's last full year on Council) to 2005?

Blaming Cranley for the City's problems is ridiculous. Chabot was on Council, County Commission and now is SUPPOSED to be representing our area's interests as our Congressman. He's been in power for decades, overseeing the downfall of his own district. Rather than travelling around the world, he should be doing everything in his power to help the district HERE--and he's been in a position to do exactly that because a lot of the causes of our concerns are bad federal policy (like SECTION 8!, cutting the COPS program, etc.). You have to ask what he's done. Not just up until 1989, but ever since--while he's been collecting our dollars as a salary to represent OUR DISTRICT.
