McEwen drops out? Schmidt sings opera?

With less than two weeks to go before the May 2 primary, things couldn't get any crazier (or could they?) in the race between Rep. Jean Schmidt and former Rep. Bob McEwen, who are both vying for the 2nd Congressional District seat.

First, someone doctored up a bogus press release purporting to be from the McEwen campaign, announcing that he's dropping out of the race to return to his home in Fairfax Station, Va., and faxed it to media around town.

The release was actually pretty funny. It said McEwen had decided running for Congress was too "grueling" and that he's instead decided to back Schmidt and go back to being a lobbyist: "I endorse her, and would vote for her but for my return to Virginia."

Read Channel 9's story about the fake release here.

Then, an even more clever person, took the C-SPAN footage of Schmidt's speech last November where she told Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., a decorated former Marine, that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do," and put it to music.

More specifically, put it to opera music.

Watch the video here.

What's next?

Hmmm... bogus press release? Could it be from the same people who claimed bogus endorsements and a bogus education degree? Could it be from the same people who are on both sides of the death penalty and gays in the military?

What lame stunt is next from the Schmidt campaign?

Are they going to hire a sleazy liberal attorney to sue Bob McEwen for challenging her in the primary?

As opposed to a sleazy conservative lawyer who runs for Congress in a state he doesn't even live in?

Schmidt proved to 2nd District voters that she is the "The Real Deal."

That is, if the Real Deal means that you stutter a lot, talk about cars with seven cylinders, and only expect to get votes from people who have never moved from Southern Ohio.

Schmidt would be a laughingstock only if her "moral conflictions" weren't so serious.

Given Mean Jean's phony degree, phony endorsements, phony quote from Col. Danny Bubp, and phony claims of support for the right to life and lower taxes, I'm not at all surprised to see her team send out phony press releases. Hopefully the voters will replace this phony excuse for a Congressman with the real thing in Bob McEwen.

Now we know why Schmidt says she wants to debate and then refuses to debate - she is the worst debater ever and what a fool she made of herself on WLWT. Seven cylinder engines at Ford? What the heck is that all about? Forgets the question and has to have it repeated. No memory Jean or did you simply not pay attention? Has to read her opening statement. McEwen won that hands down. Not even a contest. I cannot see how anyone would vote to put an imbecile like Schmidt back in Congress. What an embarrassment. If the voters lose their minds and vote her back in, I expect to see more Saturday Night Live skits featuring our idiot Congressfool Schmidt.

Schmidt is now aligned with Liberal Democrat Stan Chesley! That's all I needed to know. I'm switching my vote to McEwen!

I'm consistently amazed at the people who have nothing better to do than hurl anonymous insults at other anonymous peopls on this.

You people need to get laid.

Well, yes, we all need to get laid.

But the hurling of insults, the telling of lies about credentials, endorsements, college degrees, where we live, where we stand on key issues like the death penalty and homosexuals in the military, is what our great political system is all about.

And because of the First Amendment, we can even do it anonymously.

Calling yourself a "Conservative" does not make you a Conservative. As a lifelong Conservative in Hamilton County, I have seen phonies before, but Mrs. Schmidt takes deception to a new low.

Her teaming up with Bill Clinton's man, Stan Chesley to smear an honored Reagan Republican, makes many of us hope that she is about to switch parties. Her behavior fits in nicely with the man who made his fortune passing out his business cards to those trying to identify the smoking remains of their loved ones after the Beverly Hills Fire.
