Happy days are here again

About 250 Democrats walked under the marquee and into the 20th Century Theater in Oakley Square Thursday night for a Hamilton County Democratic Forum pep rally and walked out two hours later pretty well fired up.

And not just because there was an open bar.

The Forum had two of the better stump speakers in Ohio Democratic politics as their keynoters - Jerry Springer - ex-mayor, ex-anchor, host of a low-rent TV slimefest, now reincarnated as a liberal radio talkmeister - and Chris Redfern, the state representative elected six weeks ago as the new Ohio Democrtic Party chairman.

Springer handled the serious message Thursday night - how Democrats need to make sure the Ohio elections of '06 and the presidential election of '08 is about something more than partisan politics - while Redfern provided comic relief.

Redfern poked fun at a list of Republican politicians, including Phil Heimlich, Bob Taft, and the front-runner for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, J. Kenneth Blackwell.

Blackwell, Redfern said, likes to find issues that divide people; "he's probably cooking up something like a ban on gay illegal immigrant right now.''

Springer's run as a host of an over-sexed, under-brained TV show that even he will tell you is pretty stupid has all but dismantled his chances of ever becoming a serious candidate for public office again. But he has done his share to help Ohio Democrats raise money. If you are the chairman of the Putnam County Democratic Party and you need to sell tickets to your annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner, having an internationally-known TV star as your keynote speaker can help; and Springer does his share of that sort of thing.

Thursday night, though, he was in front of a crowd that knew him when, and were less impressed by his celebrity than his rhetorical skills.

"If we go out this year and tell people, 'vote Democrat, because the Republicans are bad' and turn this into an argument about which party is best, then we are going to lose,'' Springer said. "The selling point is this - we have to say to people who vote Republican, 'please love your country more than your party. It's time for change; one-party rule is not a good thing.

"People in Green Township will understand that, even if they usually vote Republican,'' Springer said. "Love your country more than your party. Green Township will get it.''

Springer said he hoped that in the 1st Congressional District, where John Cranley is trying to knock off six-term incumbent Republican Steve Chabot, voters would get that message and "and say, 'Steve, we like you, but we love our country more. You've got to go.'''

"Don't worry, Steve, we'll help you find another job,'' Springer said. "I will hire him personally. I will let him be audience coordinator for my TV show.''

No, don't be fooled. It TOOK an open bar to get those people fired up.

Get 'em sauced and sell a bunch of retread promises involving craddle to grave socialism, albeit dressed up in pretty wrapping and slogans.

Who drove Cranley home that night?? Hmmmmmm?

Jeez, these Steve "Abromoff" Chabot people have got some anger issues, or perhaps its the fear of getting knocked off by Cranley.

Cranley has worked with Westside community leaders to stem the increase in crime and he backed up his words with actions. Cranley worked with the police to put more cops on the street.

What has Chabot done? Aside from taking lots of trips on lobbyists dime and dirty money from Abromoff, a whole lot of nothing. Chabot should follow his convictions about term limits and not run again.

And, it wasn't an open bar, it was a cash bar.

It was a fairly serious evening. We Dems are getting our act together here in Hamilton County. Watch out, anonymous, you won't have us to kick around anymore.

Hey Springer. What you don't understand about Green Township is that we love our country too much to give it up to morally bankrupt Democrats.

Democrats are weak on crime, weak on defense, and weak in the arena of ideas and original thought....and that is why you lose outside of the dem breeding grounds of the inner city. It's just not very hard to pick that low hanging fruit is it?

Another thing to consider in 2006. The recently signed voter id law is going to take away a good percentage of your dead people vote, and your Mary-Poppins-registered-for-crack vote.

I think that about kills the Dims in OH.

Bye-bye. Don't let the door hit ya! :)

Well, if you love your country so much, why do you sell it to the highest bidder?

When the Dem's had the oval office, you had one dollar a gallon gasoline.

Now, you have the oil men in the white house and you have two dollar and more a gallon gasoline.

If you live in the green, you must not mind handing over your green so the Indian Hill gang can laugh all the way to the bank.

Your so easy, could you pick up that soap, please !

Anon 4:05. You are hilarious! Yes!! The highest bidder! It's called capatilism baby! I'll make money from that!

You want a distribution ponzi scheme and you don't even know it.

You will continuously be a loser in a global economy, because you are afraid to take a chance!!

Thats ok, Loser! It just means more profit left for me!

I salute you!

Well, you are just a want-a-be. If you were making any real money, you would not be wasting your time writing BS on this blog.

See, that's the real difference !

We can reveal the truth while you are fooled with the illusion that you to can be like me.

Anon 1:24: It must be nice to live in a world where facts don't matter. Ok, let's go point by point...

Republicans are weak on crime. Bill Clinton funded 100,000 new cops during his first term in office. George Bush allowed the assault weapons ban expire. The ban was supported by, guess who...police officers' organizations.

Weak on defense, let's see...we could compare the casualty count (military and civilian) in George Bush's wars vs. Bill Clinton's wars. We could also point to VA benefits, which the Bush administration has slashed. It's not like it's important to take care of the guys who go to a foreign country and give up a leg or their sanity, though. At least it doesn't seem important to George Bush and republicans in congress.

As for ideas, most of the successful ideas of the 20th century came from Democrats. Social Security means your grandmother isn't eating cat food and can afford to actually heat her house (though the $14 billion Republicans like Steve Chabot handed to the oil companies in this so-called fiscally responsible budget makes that harder everyday). The GI Bill was good, too. Not that it was important to educate the country with the Cold War on the horizon. Head start works, computers in classrooms works, the Peace Corps works when Republicans aren't bombing the countries American volunteers are trying to help save.

Finally, remember ethics. While your new majority leader Boehner was handing out tobacco company checks on the House floor, and voting to make it ok for his mentor Tom Delay to remain majority leader after being indicted, Steve Chabot was taking $100,000 worth of tax-payer and lobbying funded trips, Scooter Libby was hindering an investigation into a national security breach, and Tom Delay and his hero Steve Chabot were trading votes for cash with Jack Abramoff. Those are republican ethics for you. All this while Katherine Harris wouldn't allow law-abiding citizens to vote in Miami Dade county because their names were similar to felons, and Ken Blackwell was taking voting machines out of Democratic precincts in Ohio so students and poor people would have to wait until 3 AM to vote.

eric streckfuss has given points that make no sense at all.

BJ klintoon. BJ in the oral office. Lies about it. Goes to war in Kosovo, no UN acceptance, but otherwise ignores terror in this country when he promised no less than 3 TIMES TO TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO HUNT DOWN AND BRING TO JUSTICE TO THOSE RESPONSIBLE. DID NOTHING!!!!! NADA, ZIP, END OF STORY!

Sandy burglar, whitewater, defense secrets to china, janet reno and waco, ruby ridge, elian gonzales, pardon terrorists for votes, more cabinet members CONVICTED OF CRIMES THAN ANY OTHER ADMINISTRATION IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY, and the list goes on and on, and on, and on, and on...infinitely, and we won't even go into all his RAPES OF INNOCENT WOMEN.

Carter...extremely incompetent as a leader of the country. BLOWN AWAY by Ronald Reagan because he had 18-19% percent interest rates, gas shortages, Cuban criminals and pshycos running our streets because Castro played him like a fiddle...which to this DAY CARTER still PRAISES Castro, WHICH MEANS HE WAS TOO STUPID TO EVEN KNOE HE WAS DUPED!! DISASTER with our hostages in Iran, Malaise rampant in our country. No Relief until Ronald Reagan took office and our hostages were given back the VERY DAY RONALD REAGAN WAS INAUGURATED!!!

Dimo-crats. Stupidest, most incompetent and corrupt to ever hold the office HANDS DOWN!

Facts are indisputable baby, and you are on the wrong side of them.

Thanks for playing. Good-Bye!

And another thing about ethics, erich..Reid is up to his eyeballs in your perfect little Jack-Abromoff-is-only-a-Republican-scandal (Gee, did't Dr. "Dementia" Dean say that Dims didn't get one dime?)

(PLEASE keep Dean as DNC head though because he is like Christmas morning every single day for Republicans! :)

And also, look for Jay Rockefeller to get the smack down for his role as the NSA leak!

Yes, these are great days to be a Conservative. And lousy to be liberal! I LOVE IT!!!

A little birdy tells me you LOSE, not GAIN, seats in the House and Senate this year!

buh-bye!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Chabot will beat Cranley in a landslide (AGAIN) for the seat in Congressional District One, and Ken Blackwell will be our new Governor. Bank on it!! :)

Go ahead and bank on it. It will be just like the Regan watch Savings and Loan collapse ! Or that Bush watch Enron swindle ! Or that loyal republican "Duke" cunningness !

Certainly no one could imagine the "christian bush" getting a BJ.

the bushy christian

You really should love your country more than you love your "trickle on" party.

You are so easy, could you pick up that soap, please !

Hah, typical Republican, Stevie "Abromoff" Chabot response. Quick talk about Bill Clinton before anyone realizes that Stevie hasn't been to the district in two years. Too many trips on behalf of lobbyists and too much money from Abromoff would make me stay away too.

I think you should keep attacking Bill Clinton, I don't mide and it just gives me more opportunity to point out that Stevie "jet set" hasn't done a thing while crime and unemployment have gone up in his district. Chabot is an absentee representative who has lost touch with the district. He's going to lose, and it will be fun to watch it happen.

Of course I can't help but point that I would much have Jerry Springer, who has a show for pure entertainment purposes, rather than Pat "God wants to kill the blacks and gays with hurricanes" Robertson as my point man.

Hey Anonymous 3:34 PM,

If you're going to run around calling someone incompetent, I'd suggest you first spellcheck your comment.

Did Dan Quayle teach you to spell "KNOE"? How about "pshychos"?

Yup, those incompetent Democrats. Hey, at least they're literate.

I assume, Anonymous, that you're a registered voter. That fact alone almost makes me wish that polling tests were legal. Almost.

Honestly, though, if someone isn't competent enough to spell properly, can we really assume they have the proper mastery of logic that electing a leader necessitates?

A word of advise, Anonymous: Git you an ed-jew-cay-shun. (Phonetically spelled so that you might understand.)

Oh, and another thing: Lay off the CAPS lock. I haven't seen that much capitalization since I used AOL in 7th grade.

Hey anon 3:50: Show us one FEC report showing Abramoff gave money to a Democrat. You can't do it, they don't exist. That's not quite the case with Steve "Pay-for-Play" Chabot, and the bribes he took to campaign against Indian casinos when he should have been focusing on his district. Maybe Steve should take another Abramoff-funded vacation and go think about all the damage he's done to this country and the first district while in office.

1. You have to believe that the nation's current 8-year prosperity was due to the work of Ronald Reagan and George Bush, but yesterday's gasoline prices are all Clinton's fault.

2. You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own.

3. You have to be against all government programs, but expect Social Security checks on time.

4. You have to believe that AIDS victims deserve their disease, but smokers with lung cancer and overweight individuals with heart disease don't deserve theirs.

5. You have to appreciate the power rush that comes with sporting a gun.

6. You have to believe everything Rush Limbaugh says.

7. You have to believe that the agricultural, restaurant, housing and hotel industries can survive without immigrant labor.

8. You have to believe God hates homosexuality, but loves the death penalty.

9. You have to believe society is color-blind and growing up black in America doesn't diminish your opportunities, but you still won't vote for Alan Keyes.

10. You have to believe that pollution is OK as long as it makes a profit.

11. You have to believe in prayer in schools, as long as you don't pray to Allah or Buddha.

12. You have to believe Newt Gingrich and Henry Hyde were really faithful husbands.

13. You have to believe speaking a few Spanish phrases makes you instantly popular in the barrio.

14. You have to believe that only your own teenagers are still virgins.

15. You have to be against government interference in business, until your oil company, corporation or Savings and Loan is about to go broke and you beg for a government bail out.

16. You love Jesus and Jesus loves you and, by the way, Jesus shares your hatred for AIDS victims, homosexuals, and President Clinton.

17. You have to believe government has nothing to do with providing police protection, national defense, and building roads.

18. You have to believe a poor, minority student with a disciplinary history and failing grades will be admitted into an elite private school with a $1,000 voucher.

You still can't point to one FEC report with one Democrat taking money from Abramoff. It's a lie by the right-wing media. I know all you criminals in the republican party wish you hadn't been caught, but when you take $100,000 worth of free trips like Steve "Abramoff" Chabot, you're bound to get what's coming to you.
