Need for name recognition?

The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners today installed their new officers for 2006. Because they are the same as they were for 2005, it didn't take long.
Commissioner Phil Heimlich unanimously was re-named president and fellow Republican Commissioner Pat DeWine was re-named vice president.
The third commissioner, Democrat Todd Potune, added a moment of levity at today's organizational meeting when he was asked if he would vote for Heimlich as commission president.
"Well, I don't know, Phil," Portune said with a wicked grin, hesitating on his vote long enough to make Heimlich laugh.
While the titles don't carry much real meaning -- the president presides over board meetings -- the tradion has been for the presidency to go to the commissioner who is up for election.
Heimlich's commission seat is up for election this fall, but he instead is running for lieutenant governor under gubernatorial candidate Jim Petro, the current Ohio Attorney General.
That in spite of rumors that Heimlich -- who can't run for two offices at the same time -- will instead choose to seek re-election as a commissioner rather than lieutenant governor, or that Petro may give up the race.
"That is a ridiculous rumor that I expect is being circulated by our opponents," said Bob Paduchik, chairman of the Petro/Heimlich campaign.
"These are being spread by campaign operatives. This is kind of the underside of politics.
"We expect to get the (Republican) nomination for governor for the Petro/Heimlich (ticket)."

I'm no campaign operative (maybe I should look into that, don't they get paid a lot of money?) but I've been spreading the rumor as told to me from people who claim that Heimlich himself told it to them. I guess we'll see when the filing deadline comes around.

Our elections are all about name recognition. You have to sell out in order to have a high profile campaign. That's why we have so much Daddyism and see political dynasties. If papers like the Enquirer would give indepth and fair coverage of all the candidates, we might get more honest candidates. We might have good discussions about where we are headed as opposed to all the mudslinging.

Petro/Heimilich getting the GOP nomination for Governor? That's funny.

Who are the Dem's running against Heimlich? And what about the State Rep races? Has anyone whose a current incumbent or with campaign expereince expressed interest in the Commissioner or Statehouse races?

Phil Heimlich: Illegally Disclosing Confidential Information? Cincinnati Beacon, 12/23/05

Yesterday, Peter Heimlich—Phil’s brother—sent letters to four state agencies requesting investigations into allegations that Phil illegally received confidential information from the Ohio Medical Board and/or the Attorney General’s office. Copies of Peter’s letters are online.

I think it's the usual suspects. They'll run Pepper for Commissioner is he'll take it on, and if he won't, they'll turn to someone like Harris. A few no-names are lining up against Brinkman. I'm told Herd & Harris have also expressed interest in running for Catherine Barett's seat, as has Nate Livingston.

Anyone hear anything else?

Before he lost the election, David Pepper filed a frivolous complaint against fellow Democrat Mark Mallory. To this day, David refuses to dismiss his divisive complaint. Tim Burke is absolutely wrong to encourage Pepper to run for anything seeing how he proves every day he leaves this complaint out there, that he is a selfish young man with no concept of Party unity. That said, because of his behavior, David will be opposed for any office he seeks. (Why do you think I haven't gotten rid of davidpepper.org!)

Who is Nate to talk about party unity? Isn't he the one who talked for a couple months last year about running for city council as a republican? You still thinking about running for state rep nate? Democrat or Republican?

Nate--Violation of campaign finance law isn't a "frivolous" matter. There was a lot of evidence of collussion between Mallory and the SEIU because they used the same vendor and the direct mail messaging was very similiar. The SEIU spent hundreds of thousands on this mailing. If the tables were turned, Mallory would've filed a complaint against Pepper.

I think your infatuation with Mallory is clouding your judgement.

Why is Nate even mentioned? His only political resume or future is within his self-created, hate-driven and disfunctional groups.
