Ghiz a no-show at Winburn events

Republican mayoral candidate Charlie Winburn has now held two major press events where he was flanked by GOP candidates for City Council: His June 16 camapaign kickoff, and his rally last Wednesday for a new jail.

John Eby, Sam Malone and Chris Monzel were at both. Leslie Ghiz was not.

"I've been really busy in depositions," said Ghiz, a lawyer.

Ghiz was passed over for the council seat vacated by Pat DeWine earlier this year. Malone, who made the appointment, is a Winburn protege, and Winburn and Malone supported the anti-gay rights charter amendment that Ghiz campaigned against.

Ghiz would not elaborate on whether she planned to attend future Winburn press events, but suggested her deposition calendar was packed through at least Sept. 13.

I, for one, am really glad to see that Leslie Ghiz has the conviction not to gave into party politics. I respect her more for not caving in

It is time for people like Leslie to make inroads in the Republican Party and take it back from the conservatives. Her progressive pro-choice stance is what we need more of in the GOP. So what if she is liberal? She is out and proud.

based on the articles about her, she is firmly pro-life. but regardless, she can still make remarkable inroads in the republican party. good for her.

I would be too sure about her being pro-life if I were you. She rides the fence on about every substantive and divisive issue. Its hard to pin her down.

Political parties should be big tents. I feel strongly that Leslie is an excellent candidate and should do what's best for her campaign as well as her conscience. Charlie Winburn understands politics and he will do what he needs to do. I don't sense that this is a big deal inside the Republican Party. Everyone should understand the solo nature of running for council. At the end of the day everyone is working to get themselves elected. Again that's politics. I doubt seriously that anyone will care what events she missed in July when she wins in November.

Leslie looks pretty hot to me. She's getting my vote. Oh wait, damn, I live in Cincinnati but I can't vote for council. I never get that. Damn and double damn. She is hot. Please vote her into office.

I think Ghiz excuses are silly and childish. Either she supports Winbun or she doesn't. Either she is a Republican or she isn't. But being busy at work is a load of garbage. She cannot keep telling lies (like her hero Rove - see QCF article: http://queencityforum.com/columns/Article54.php )

Leslie is a class act. While she may not be attending events for Winburn, she knows that she doesn't need to trash him publicly to get her point across. Most politicians in our city get their validation from hearing themselves talk. Leslie is just focusing on her own campaign and not bothering anyone else and I applaud her for that. After all, didn't our mothers always say that if you don't have anything nice to say about someone, then don't say anything at all? Keep up the good work Leslie!
