One Republican NOT running from Cunningham

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Committee to Elect Kathy King for Judge announces controversial celebrity endorsement

HAMILTON COUNTY, OHIO – In a heated battle for the only contested Hamilton County Judge race, controversial conservative talk show host Bill Cunningham has endorsed Magistrate Kathy King over Pat DeWine in the race for Judge in the Court of Common Pleas.

"I've known Kathy King for more than 30 years. She's a life-long Republican. She's been a magistrate in the Court of Common Pleas Domestic Relations Division for 25 of those years. Kathy King is the only candidate who has spent her entire career preparing to become a judge. As an attorney, I know that in the courtroom, experience and preparation matter most when voting for judge. There's no comparison to Kathy King in this race, so I support Kathy King. It's a no-brainer!" said Cunningham.

Bill Cunningham has been a lightning rod of controversy surrounding his emotional warm-up at a recent Republican rally to support Presidential hopeful, John McCain earlier this week.

Asked how the controversy over Cunningham's remarks would affect her campaign for judge, Magistrate Kathy King replied, "Bill and I have been friends for over three decades. All during that time, I've never known him to back down from speaking his mind, no one can prevent him from speaking the truth, and Bill doesn't cave in to political pressure. He speaks from his heart. Bill Cunningham is truly a great American with a microphone and he isn't afraid to use it. I'm truly honored that Bill Cunningham endorsed me in this very important race for Judge in the Court of Common Pleas."

Bill Cunningham's recorded telephone message endorsing Kathy King for Judge is being placed to thousands of Republican households this weekend. To hear the recording in full, go to www.kathyking2008.org and click on the Bill Cunningham link. The entire script follows:

"Bill Cunningham here: I am a Great American, and I'm asking you as a fellow American, and resident of Hamilton County, to vote for Kathy King, a lifelong Republican, for judge.

Kathy King is running for judge against Pat DeWine because, like me, she knows that in the courtroom, experience matters. Kathy King has been a magistrate in the Common Pleas Court for 25 years. Kathy King has tried dozens of jury trials and hundreds of bench trials.

I've personally known Kathy King for 30 years and I'm asking you to join me and vote "Kathy King" for judge on Tuesday.

Paid for by the Committee to elect Kathy King, James King, treasurer.

How about a serious comment about who is the best candidate for Judge in that race?

First, this is a Republican primary. Republicans will pick. So, Mr. Whack-Job, Metz and Davis are not running against DeWine in that primary.

Now that we have it clear that those taking a Republican ballot on Tuesday get to vote, let's look at the candidates.

First, the Hamilton County Republican Party--THE party in this County, endorsed Pat DeWine in a nearly 3 to 1 vote of it's executive committee.

So, if you're a Republican voter, you should know, clearly, that the Republican party of this county has endorsed Pat DeWine.

Second, the job of Judge is a very important one to the safety of our citizens because Judge's have tremendous discretion in sentencing offenders. Prosecutor Joe Deters, the leading law enforcement officer in this county, strongly endorses Kathy King. Despite her "years of service" in the domestic relations court, Mr. Deters will not endorse her.

Why?

Ms. King is in DIVORCE COURT. She handles divorces as an employee of the judges. She is NOT a judge and doesn't hear criminal cases. SHE IS A DIVORCE COURT REFEREE! This is NO kind of experience for handling serious death penalty cases and complex commercial litigation in the job she seeks.

For those that know both--and this blogger does--Pat DeWine has a far, far superio intellect. He went to one of the finest law schools in the country. He clerked for the prestigious federal 6th circuit court of appeals. He has worked on complex litigation cases for one of Cincinnati's finest firms.

Ms. King is A DIVORCE COURT REFEREE with NO experience in complex litigation and VERY VERY limtited experience as a divorce person.

The Court ms. King IS RUNNING FOR DOES NOT DO DIVORCE WORK.

Wake up, Republicans! Pat DeWine is THE FAR SUPERIOR CANDIDATE IN THAT RACE. That is why the Republican Party and it's #1 leader, Joe Deters, endorsed HIM!!

Vote for no-nonsense justice with Pat DeWine!

The only blemish on King's record is her accepatance of Cunningham's support --- I haven't decided if that's enough to waive that whole race or still vote for her now.

Disappointing

So how does Cunnigham profit from endorsing King? Just asking.

Once again, Perennial Loser Mike Harlow gives his clients unbelievably poor campaign advice. Kathy King is going down, Dick Hammermsith is going down, Tom Brinkman is going down huge, and Ron Maag is going down in Warren County.

At least he's only going to lose 4 races this time and not the 8 he lost last time.

Kathy King is a hack who doesn't know the law. She'll be a terrible Judge.

at 10:48 PM, March 01, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Having heard Cathy King speak, she's as much of an annoying, loud-mouth clown as Cunningham. Two peas in a pod. That, and DeWine's opposition to raising the Sales Tax, which Cunningham supported, explain this endorsement.

I don't want a judge who blindly obeys the party line. DeWine is the only one in this race who has shown the fairness and impartiality necessary to be a good judge.

“a magistrate in the Court of Common Pleas Domestic Relations Division” oh, really? And I’m to believe this qualifies her to administer justice? Hamilton County has long record of promoting those within the system, start as a prosecutor, then on to Judge.

In our system of justice a judge listens to the facts, then, after interpreting the law, renders a decision, If your career has been working for convictions common sense tells us that person has a bias to convict, and, therefore, is unable to fairly consider the sprit of the law. Pat DeWine has no such bias, he will fairly apply the law dispensing justice.

Judge Pat Dewine has shown he understands our community, he was lone Spartan crusader bravely standing against Republican party hordes on Jail tax, for no other reason than that he deserves communities support.

Willie did for McCain what Howard Dean did for his own campaign with his scream. Only the wilfully stupid would not recognize Willie's juvenile attempt to connect Barack HUSSEIN Obama with the terrorists by using his middle name. It's like using Rudy JULIE-annie's name to connect him to John Gotti and La Cosa Nostra. Obama is going to clean the clock of both the Republicans and Al Qaeda. My God, after eight years of the disaster named Bush, no one could do worse. George Bush is so bad he makes Jimmy Carter seem presidential in comparison.

Can all of you Repug-Bots on here do me a favor and google "Don Siegelman" and "60 Minutes?"

If you still want to defend Bush after reading any one of those news stories, you seriosuly need to have your head examined.

Karl Rove used the U.S. Attorneys in Alabama to create a trumped-up prosecution of a Democratic former Governor for no toerh reason than he could. He used low-level operatives, no doubt wowed by the White House's calling them to help their party, to dig dirt on Siegelman, then disavowed having anything to do with it. He used political hack judges to lock up this guy for no other crime than GWD- Governing While Democrat.

Disgusting. Another Repug trampling on the Constitution.

I am sure that either Clinton or Obama will follow the Constitution, but I hope they use the same level of respect for the Constitution when investigating the Repugnicants that the Repugs had for it when they were in control.

Question: how do we repatriate or Constitution? Do we hold some kind of ceremony, hold a re-vote of the Constitution and all its Amendments (watching the Repugs squirm on National TV and pretend to support it will be hilarious)? Do we have a national celebration on the Mall? Do we need to involve the Supreme Court somehow?

We will be making history, that's for sure.

Cunningham is a non-factor in this race. I like Willie, but I have no idea why his endorsement has anything to do with a judicial race.

Joe Deters endorsed DeWine. That's an endorsement that actually means something in a judicial race. I'm convinced.

Harlow is managing Kathy King's campaign? That's funny, since his wife is publicly supporting Pat DeWine. And just how does someone manage 4 campaigns simultaneosly, let alone 8?

You obviously have some deep and abiding hatred of this rather obscure political operative. I've gogled him and found nothing but anonymous slams on hre. What did he do to you? Please share it. It must be a really good story for you to keep going on and on and on. Tell me

MR.Family Values Paaaaat DeeeeeWine? Give us a break. Both he and his father need to get out of politics, they have done a enough damage to Hamilton County. Kathy King, will get my Repubican Vote

at 3:29 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

The Anonymous above who said Deters endorsement actually means something in a judicial race sure said a mouthful. Anytime a prosecutor endorses a judge candidate, I will vote for the other candidate. Nothing smells more foul than a back room deal between the County Prosecutor and a potential judge. I certainly don't know all the details of the "deal" Deters struck with DeWine to drop out of the Commissioner race to run for judge, but whatever it was, DeWine now "owes" Deters a huge political favor. Voters must not tolerate judges who owe the Prosecutor any favors. Kathy King doesn't owe anyone any political favors. She's undesputedly more experienced than DeWine. So an endorsement by Deters for DeWine seals the deal for me. As Willie said, this is a no-brainer. WAKE UP HAMILTON COUNTY and stop being manipulated by the GOP Party backroom dealmakers! Vote for Kathy King for judge!

at 4:17 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Has anyone ever seen Dewine in a courtroom? Sure, he's "anti-everything"...and if that's what you mean by "Conservative" then we should assume he will be a fine Judge. Let's face it, Joe Deters endorsed DeWine because the Party had to get him off the Commission before he lost the only Republican seat. Think about it...why didn't Si Leis endorse DeWine? Mr. Law and Order himself? The reason is pretty simple...DeWine has abosolutely no real legal experience...but he does have all the Party hype for all of the wrong reasons.

Are these 2 really the only choices?? Good grief!

Only argument here is who would be worse.

at 6:38 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nobody knows wht kind of judges are needed on the bench more than the Prosecutor.

I see you pulled out the Si Leis card. Using your logic - Why hasn't Leis endorsed King?

at 6:44 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anon 3:29 - King is "undisputedly more experienced"??? Give me a break.

She's been a magistrate in divorce court for 25 years!!! That means she hasn't tried an actual case in over a quarter of a century. DeWine in the mean time has been actively practicing law for the past 13 years.

at 6:59 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am voting for King because we need more pro-abortion judges on the bench. Kathy proudly stands for a woman's right to have an abortion on demand. We need her kind of values on the court.

at 7:26 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Has anyone given any thought to this very important aspect to this race: Who can win in November?

DeWine has excellent fundraising ability, has real experience in County-wide campaigns before, has done well in traditionally Democratic areas of the City, and has well-organized grass-roots support.

Anyone considering voting for King should ask themselves if they're prepared to lose this seat on the bench in the general election to Norma Holt-Davis, a far-left Democrat. Is that what we really want? Remember, once you lose these judicial seats they're nearly impossible to get back.

at 8:42 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

ANON 6:59 - I wholeheartedly concur. If we are successful in getting King elected the voters will have no pro-life candidate to choose from this fall. Victory shall be ours!

at 9:52 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, lets see. Norma davis will loose no matter what. So the question is why would Joe Deters endorse anyone? Does he owe Dewine.. or does Dewine owe him? Or more apparently, what deals were made to pull off this absurd endorsement? Has Deters or anyone in his office ever tried a case against DeWine? The answer is NO... because DeWine has never been in court! Is this really what you want in a Judge?? It's time to buck the "Deal".

at 10:11 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey,Anon 6:59. you right to life folks don't seem to get it. Judges who declare their views can never hear any case that may involve your bias..or theirs. You see, it is the job of a Judge to follow the Law, period. So your boy, DeWine can never hear a case involving your cause. Good luck with this attack theory. The result is to disqualify your canidates. And by the way, I agree with your thoughts...your method is unacceptable. Talk to your political reps...Judges should be fair and impartial and follow the law. They don't represent you or me... THEY REPRESNT THE LAW!

at 10:23 PM, March 02, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anon:638 Why do you think Leis hasn't endorsed? Does the word "Deal" mean anything to you? think about it.. it will only take a second.

Deters endorsed DeWine?
Well then, I'm voting Kathy King.
Deters, what a hack?

Has P-P-P-Patrick ever actually tried a case? Anywhere? King might be a low-level westside hack, but Dewine is just looking for a paycheck.

Hey ANON 10:11 -
Judges all over the State of Ohio, and indeed across the Country seek the Right to Life endorsement and are able to do so because RTL words their questionaires very carefully so that there is no future conflict. Call Cincinnati RTL and ask them.

The idea that all these judges would have to recuse themselves is just a red herring thrown out by supporters of Cathy King to deflect attention from the fact that she is NOT pro-life. Judges do have to fairly administer the law. They do not have to give up their Constitutional right to hold and express pro-life beliefs in the process.

at 10:49 AM, March 03, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kathy King has never declared one side or the other on the pro-life issue. All comments in this thread are obvious attempts by DeWine supporters to falsely label Kathy King. Just because she chose to follow the Cannons of Ethics and not reply to RTL bias questionnaire does not make her pro-abortion. Pat DeWine on the other handed most likely violated the Cannons of Ethics by answering the questionnaire. I will NEVER vote for a candidate -- especially one for judge -- who blatenlty violates the Cannons of Ethics, then has his minnons smear the opponent with lies about her stance on ProLife. Put up or shut up. Where's your evidence that Kathy King is not pro-life? There isn't any. Your just so desperate to place the party hacks in office to save your own county jobs. Go back to work and stop stealing taxpayer money by writing these lies on county time.

at 10:57 AM, March 03, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Any judge who seeks after or recieves and endorsement by any special interest group must recuse themselves in any case related to that issue. READ THE CANNONS OF ETHICS -- it's a requirement! Pat DeWine, in his weak attempt to decieve voters that he's the only pro-life candidate, has negated any positive effect on issues regarding life. What a shame. If he ever has such a case before him, I and many others like me will file a compaint with the Ohio Supreme Court. The bottom line is that RTL has shot themselves in the foot by endorsing ANY judicial candidate. They should seriously re-evaluate their methodology of selecting pro-life judicial candidates. Vote Kathy King. She doesn't owe the prosecutor any favors. She doesn't owe special interest groups any favors. And she's tried jury and bench trials. DeWine fails all three tests above -- and don't get me started about how DeWine admitted publicly that he left his pregnant wife for his assistant. Great family values guy - not! Deters should be ashamed of himself.

at 11:21 AM, March 03, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

If DeWine violated the Canon of Ethics file a complaint. Time for you to put up or shut up. The fact of the matter is that you KNOW he hasn't violated the Canons. Put your money where your mouth is or go home.

at 11:31 AM, March 03, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

All King has to do is publicly state that she is 100% pro-life and this whole mess will go away. She won't. I guarantee it. And it has nothing to do with the Judicial Canons because it is perfectly legal.

The Supreme Court of the United States has already ruled on this issue. (REPUBLICAN PARTY OF MINNESOTA et al. v. WHITE, CHAIRPERSON, MINNESOTA BOARD OF JUDICIAL STANDARDS, et al.)

at 1:45 PM, March 03, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

What Judges have ever signed on to such a cause? Let's have some names. Could it be that DeWine just didn't understand the result of his Right to Life fiasco? I notice that it suddenly was removed from his mailers. Just what we need in a Judge... a hack who acts first...and thinks later.

Pat DeWine has been an ineffective politician his entire life. It must run in the family. It's time to retire the DeWine clan from public office!

I'm voting for Kathy King for Common Pleas judge.

Kathy King should win tomorrow in a close one.

Just this year in Hamilton County alone Judge Winkler and Judge Triantafilou have. This isn't the first year either. Do your research before you ask dumb questions.

Anon 5;31 Thanks for the two young Judges who are in the RTL's pocket. I thought there were 30 or 40 Judges in Hamilton Co. And two have publically stated a bias that should disqualify them from any relevant cases. Perhaps some are willing to do anything to get elected....The heck with bias on the bench!

To those who state that Kathy King has no experience in criminal procedures.

Almost all of our judges have started somewhere in the Prosecutor's Office. The three judges from the Court of Domestic Relations came there directly from the Prosecutor's Office and/or Municiple Court. No experience in Domestic Relations on day one.

Kathy King was in the Public Defenders Office before Domestic Relations Court. She has as much or more experience as every one of them. Period!!!!!!!

There's plenty of reason to despise Pat Dewine, the puh-puh-perpetual puh-puh-politician.

The Republican party put this hack out to pasture before the voters had a chance to throw the bum out. Dewine's pathetic political career is finally over - just like his daddy's!
