GOP Chairman blasts Brunner for intimidation

Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Bennett called on Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner today to restore "bipartisan respect and cooperation" to Ohio's election system.

In a news statement issued shortly after Brunner, a Democrat, released results of a statewide survey (see related item below), Bennett cited numerous reports of Brunner's ongoing "heavy-handed tactics" with county election board members for disagreeing with her directives.

"I've heard from board members across the state who are frustrated and threatened by the culture of intimidation coming out of the secretary of state's office," Bennett said. "Jennifer Brunner's message to these longtime elections experts is do it my way or you're fired. Her arrogance is appalling, and quite frankly it shows a profound disrespect for people who have decades of experience running elections in this state."

"She's constantly putting out these threats," Bennett said. "And it does absolutely nothing to inspire loyalty and respect among these board members. Quite frankly, I'm convinced she'd get rid of every one of them if she had the choice. Jennifer Brunner wants to run the elections system in this state like a dictator. I think she'll find out pretty quickly that she needs these people a lot more than they need her."

Bennett also criticized Brunner's "arrogant response" to criticism of her proposals raised by election officials at a recent statewide conference, where she interrupted a Republican board member from Mahoning County who praised his county's touch-screen voting system.

Jeff Ortega, a spokesman for Brunner, said her record on bipartisanship has been clear.

"Secretary of State Brunner asked for and received cooperation from a bipartisan mix of elections officials to help her in crafting recommendations from the recent Project EVEREST report."

Additionally, she has met and talked on a bipartisan basis with elections officials from throughout this state and the public on these important issues, Ortega said. One public hearing was held Tuesday and nine additional town hall meetings are planned.

"Bob Bennett may still be harboring some animosity after his forced resignation from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections last year," Ortega said.

Bob Bennet's ignorance is astounding. These people blew the 2004 election and disenfranchised an unprecedented number of African American voters according to a congressional report and many other investigations.

It is because of Republican crooks that are in jail that we have these machines (not to mention W, Jeb, Katherine Harris and daddy Bush's friends on the Supreme Court's theft of Florida 2000) that are easily hacked and secretly counted by private partisan companies.

There were illegalities and convictions during the recount and 56 of 88 counties destroyed the ballots despite a court order to protect them. These people ought to be sent to jail or whatever else the punishment for treason is.

Voting and Ohio BMV Incident: I felt we narrowly averted appearing in a remake of of Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy..."

Me and my husband obtained new drivers' licenses even though our licenses were current because we had a change of residence. We were both offered the chance to SAVE MONEY BY LETTING THE BMV UPDATE OUR NEW RESIDENCE INFO IN THEIR SYSTEM WITHOUT PROVIDING US WITH NEW DRIVERS' LICENSES (CARDS). For obvious reasons we said thanks but no thanks and paid the higher prices to get the new drivers' licenses reflecting our change of addres so that we CAN GO DOWN TO THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS TO CHANGE OUR PRECINCT IN TIME FOR THE MARCH PRIMARY 2008. The offer made to us for the"cheaper" way of making the address change presents another way the poor can be diverted from casting a "regular"vote!!!
Day of incident: Thursday, January 24, 2008
Time of incident: about 2:15 p.m.
BMV location: Hamilton County, Ohio
3372 Red Bank Road
Cincinnati, Ohio 45227
Phone: (513) 271 - 2770

Sincerely,

Convivenciahereandnow,
Ohio Election Justice Campaign

Just because some of these BOE members have been in the election business for decades, doesn't make them "election experts", of anything. Obviously a large percent of them can't even follow the simple direction of their boss SOS Brunner, by filling out a simple 3 question form and sending it back in a timely manner.
Which should be a crime.

If they can't fill the boots of the position, or the stress and hard work involved with taking direction from a leader who seems ready to stand up for Ohio voter's rights...then step down...and step down fast...help us who care about elections and take them seriously, sleep easier at night.

A large percent of these same people, are simply scared that there's a new sheriff in town and she's starting to look a further into their misdeeds.

I applaud SOS Brunner, stay in the fight for us Jennifer Brunner!!! It takes a loud woman to change history.

Does Jesus himself have to appear here in this land, to get rid of these faulty DRE's? How many more computer experts will it take? How many more voter complaints? How many more lost votes? How many more questionable elections?

I voted for Brunner somewhat apprhensively in 2006 because I heard she was a bully...I am definitely not voting for her in 2010!

STEALING ELECTIONS

One name on the JINSA advisory board is of particular interest, J. Kenneth Blackwell. Blackwell was Ohio's Secretary of State during the 2004 presidential elections and helped steal votes in that state so GW Bush could stay in power.

Afterwards, he violated state and federal law and court rulings and DESTROYED those ballots.

Amen, Jeff, but aren;t you the president of the Repugs' little kiddie corps auxiliary? Aren't you supposed to be in charge of sign-stealing, vote-fixing, and underground smear campaigns, or do you only like targeting other Republicans like Jean Schmidt and Simon Leis?

As a Democrat, I am so glad to see someone like you in charge of that group.

Perhaps the Repugs will finally conduct an honest election with a Repug-hater like Capell running their show.

It takes a great deal of courage to bite your tongue and go along like this and rise to the top of a crooked organization when you are such an honest guy.

It's kind of like learning that a mafia informer became a made man, except that La Cosa Nostra had an honor code. Repug groups have no honor.

I have a blast for the 56 of 88 Ohio county elections officials who either lost or destroyed 2004 presidential ballots. YOU LIKELY BROKE THE LAW. If you did break the law, you belong in jail for the enormity of the crime you committed.

Brunner blew it big time when she let you off the hook for desruction of evidence. She should have charged you all. Violation of thelaw - retention period, failure to follow a court order - is not excused by laughable claims that you were ignorant of the law.

So how do you return Brunner's gift, letting your lame excuses stand for your manifes negligence? You humiliate her and defy the law again. I hope that she got the message this time. You folks need to learn that you are not above the law.

It's so nice to see that even in this backwards town people are starting to wake up to the damage caused by the republican brand. Just think, we are just under a year away from a Democrat President, Senate, and Congress. Rest in peace, GOP.

HAVA (Help America Vote Act) which provided the billions for electronic voting machines (THAT DON'T ACCURATELY & RELIABLY WORK-see the GAO Report on E-voting machines if you doubt this claim) was written in the office of GOP Rep Bob Ney with guidance from Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Where are these two crooks now?

HAVA was nothing of a way to funnel vast amounts of money into the hands of GOP cronies to help control the outcome of elections.

You've got to wonder why Bob Bennett doesn't want elections that can be verified with a paper ballot.

Nothing is more important to the integrity of a democracy than than fair and transparent elections. The GAO recently released a 107 page scathing report on Electronic Voting Machines in our country. The report states that Electronic Voting Machines in the U.S. are NOT SECURE, NOT ACCOUNTABLE, NOT TRANSPARENT, NOT ACCURATE, AND ARE UNCERTIFIABLE. A bipartisan panel which included both Republican Congressman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Democratic Congressman John Conyers (D-MI) released a joint news release (a true rarity in these days of divisive politics) regarding his report, yet the main stream media has ignored it's important findings. Here is a link to the GAO Report:

ISN'T IT AMAZING THAT DIEBOLD CAN MAKE BANKING ATM MACHINES THAT ARE RELIABLE ENOUGH FOR PUBLIC/INDUSTRY CONFIDENCE AND YET THEIR ELECTION MACHINES FAIL? Just a coincidence?

What will the Ohio GOP do now that Brunner insists on actually counting votes?

at 1:22 PM, January 25, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

THe Ohio GOP is well aware that they will be absolutely blown out of the water if the votes are counted honestly in 2008. The Democrat nominee will win Ohio in a walk, the Repugs will lose their House and Senate majorities, and hundreds of Repugs will lose their county seats and thousands of their patronage hacks will be out of work.

The party's very existence lies on being able to count the votes themselves. If they lose that, they lose power. If they lose power, they lose money. If they lose money, they lose everything.

Rot in Hell, GOP. You and your big-money operatives have hijacked much of Christianity, and once in power caused million of people to lose everything they worked their entire life for, and in the process you destroyed our Constitution.

If I were a Repug operative, I would be devoting every waking moment to my upcoming legal defense, deciding which bigger fish I can turn state's evidence on.

When you look at the known crimes Repug elected officials and operatives have committed coast to coast at every level of government: corruption, tax evasion, personally profiting from public positions, awarding contracts to campaign contributors, destruction of public records, sexual exploitation of children, election law violations, etc., and really there is no difference between the Republican Party and the Mafia.

Hopefully, the next President hires an Attorney General capable of seeing this and prosecutes the Repugs as a corrupt organization under the RICO statutes.

With all the crooks in the Repugnicant Party, the GOP could be classified as a street gang under a law that they rammed through and Taft signed into law. Taft himself could be considered a gang member under it!

From a recent Columbus Dispatch (AKA right-wing rag, just like our local Fishwrap) article:

"Ohio law classifies a gang as three or more people engaged in criminal activity who have a common name or use an identifying sign, symbol or color. Participating in a gang is a second-degree felony."

We don't even need a Democratic president to jail the Repugs as a corrupt organization under RICO, which is Federal law. Governor Strickland and AG Marc Danncould do it tonight.

Bob Bennett could be frog-marched out of his plush office tomorrow.
