A Month Off

After today's 2 1/2-hour marathon - that's a very long meeting by recent standards - Cincinnati City Council takes a month-long summer break.

Committees are on hiatus until July 30 and 31, and council meets only once the rest of the summer, on Aug. 1, before resuming its regular schedule after Labor Day.

That means more time for their real jobs and their campaigns.

Right. You mean for those Clowncil Members who actually have jobs.

Excellent news. It's good for all of us that Council has few opportunities until September to further mess up this city.

When Council does resume, I assume Leslie Ghiz will finally follow through on her campaign promise to introduce a motion to cut Council salaries in half. If Leslie is a woman of her word, she will have this resolution ready to go.

One substantive complaint against Ghiz is her lack of action on a campaign pledge to reduce council members’ salaries. When asked, Ghiz has said she’s waiting to introduce such a proposal until sometime in 2007, a council election year when she can leverage support from other members and have better odds at passage.

On vacation? Please. Have you ever seen a more poorly run city?

Now Bortz and Cranley can get back to their real jobs...lobbying the city for tax breaks for their developments.
