While it comes as no surprise to me that one of Valerie Lemme's Dayton hacks would exercise such poor management skills, I am confused about the headline. Bronson's column does not make any reference to Rita McNeil making people watch anything.

It is sad. Terry ends his long career with sour grapes. That is how he will be remembered.

Sounds as if he just can't handle a woman boss.

Any wonder why Bronson got this story? He will always take the side of the pro-cop white guy over a more balanced african american woman. Predictable Pete.

I think it is good that someone has finally spoken out about the poor state of the City's law department.

It has been well known in legal circles that interact with the Law Department that the office is a complete mess. Very quickly after Rita arrived anyone who was half-way competent left the office. Prior to Rita's arrival the Department was well respected.

The problem is not just Rita's management style (or lack thereof), but her almost complete lack of experience in Municipal Law. Prior to her stint as Dayton's law director (under Valerie Lemme of course) Rita had never practiced Municipal Law.

Mallory should get rid of Rita and restore some of the respect to the department.

Hey anon 10:58, I though the City banned workers from accessing political websites, but I guess the law department is exempted.

Anyway, I say good for Terry. He is much more respected than Rita will ever be in the legal community. Rita is a hack who doesn't understand Municipal Law or how to run an office.

Unfortunately for Terry, Rita McNeil is a bad boss who happens to be a woman, so he gets painted with that brush. Maybe you could explain why so many attorneys have left the Law Department since Rita was appointed rather than attacking a whistleblower with anonymous web postings.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly, although in a different vein. Had it been a white ashcanning a black, the NAACP, rhyming reverends, loud mouthed attorneys, community agitators & race card players would be storming City Hall demanding answers & calling for a riot to start at 6PM.

This is nothing short of appalling & I'm demanding an explanation & a reprimand of Julia LaRita McNeil.

Anyone who screams at employees & insists they watch The Apprentice isn't a consummate professional. What's next for a TV watching assignment? Judge Judy?

Screaming at employees? Someone needs to grow up & get a grip on real life here. Julia honey, I've gone thru menopause. Soy works great to deal with the sweats & the volatile, unprofessional behavior. Give it a try, your employees will thank you for it. If you can't get a grip, you'll have to go. You serve at the taxpayers' request & if you can't behave, you can't ride on my dime.

But as usual, this is government, and there won't be any accountability for any actions. Hey, wanna bet she doesn't get a promotion?? She and that administrative ace, Darryl Brock, can head up some other important department, I'm sure!

You clearly don't know Terry Cosgrove or anything about him. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is able to utter a bad word about him or his integrity. If you knew him, you would not have posted your comment.

The recent comment regarding not knowing Terry Cosgrove was meant for 10:58 AM, March 01, 2007, not 10:48 AM.

Rita McNeil is not looking out for the best interest of the City or the taxpayer - she's building the Old (African American) Girl network. Look into the racial makeup of the thirty or so people who are no longer serving at her pleasure and you'll find it goes way beyond coincidental. What kind of organization looses 30 employees in about 5 years? A really poorly run one and one in which serving the clients (taxpayers) is not on the agenda.

Sad, sad, sad -

From all accounts, Rita McNeil has proven herself to be a competent attorney and you all are just pissed that she did not cow-tow to your racist, sexist whims. It is clear that she cleaned house in the Law Department, she demanded accountability and she released those who did not want to be a part of this new direction of competence and respectability. A organization that values integrity and character loses 30 employees in 5 years in they don't want to fall in line. Obviously, none of you have anything better to do with you time. GET A LIFE. Obviously Rita McNeil has got one, she is living it and probadly making more than all of you put together. What a great country America is - Great minds and hard work produces Vice Presidents of Chambers - small minds produces bloggers with nothing good to say.
