Loveland debate gets a little ugly
From reporter Jane Prendergast:
It's common at Loveland City Council meetings for Councilman Paul Elliott to be the odd man out. He often votes against the tide.
But Elliott-versus-someone else got a little ugly during Tuesday night's discussion about building a pool and recreation center on a site adjacent to Phillips Park, and asking residents to vote in May to increase their income taxes percent to pay for it.
Elliott acted almost surprised when the vote came to designating the 15.22-acre site at Rich and Fallis roads the preferred site for the new facility, even though the site has been talked about for months and is even outlined as the preferred site on the city's Web site.
He said he didn't like it when council members were scheduled to act on an issue the same night they'd held a public hearing. He said it could seem to people that their comments didn't figure in.
Councilman Todd Osborne said it was "idiotic" for Elliott to pretend as if he hadn't known what site was going to be chosen.
Elliott said he'd been called worse.
Mayor Rob Weisgerber jumped in: "Let's keep the name-calling to a minimum."

Paul Elliott is the leading voice of reason in Loveland politics and Osbourne is the loudest voice always overruling the voice of the people.
I see Elliott's point - if they take a vote right after a public hearing , it IS demonstrative of a pre-planned agenda and the voices of anyone who cared enough to speak out was effectively silenced.
At least Elliott wants to give the good people of Loveland their due consideration before voting.
Osbourne is more like the little dictator wh was FORCED by law to follow the rules and let the menial public have their two minutes.
Who cares about Loveland
i think it would be great if we had a lot more council meetings, congressional meetings, et. al. that were conducted in the style of the british parliarment. every now and then one of the cable channels will carry a meeting of the house of commons where tony blair is on the floor literally defending himself on issues as all sorts of insults and abuse are heaped on him.
Osbourne shows his class
not
Osbourne had the kahonees to say what a lot of people say. I watched the meeting on tv. He didn't say that Elliott was an idiot. it sounded like said it was idiotic for him to act surprised. I didn't vote for elliot and won't if he even runs again. My neighbors wish they hadn't.
Anyone who follows these city meetings cannot deny that Osbourne frequently goes off on tangents, insulting people and organizations.
His antics have caused on more than one occassion an outporuing of citizens to city council meetings to address his absurd comments and ridicule of the public , its institutions and fellow council members.
Elliot, in his usual calm tone, brings forth issues that come up at the water cooler in area businesses and shares them with the official council - the fun thing is watching Osbourne go balistic when anyone disagrees with him.
I think Elliot is great - Osbourne is a nutcase
Comical. Pure fiction but comical.
These Elliott fans should keep drinkin' the koolaid. Elliott is the most ill prepared councilman ever elected. He should move over to Miami Township or Symmes where his fans love and admire him. It sure ain't Loveland.
Elliot seems to want to continue to debate the building the city is trying to erect for the YMCA.
Unfortunately the citizens of Loveland are too dim, including Osborne's fans, to realize a 900/year membership fee YMCA is not what an income tax should be spent on.
