The 'We don't like Chris Finney' rule?

For not even being at the meeting, Chris Finney sure got a lot attention today.

Commissioner Todd Portune, the board’s new president under the new Democratic-majority, is moving quickly to place his stamp on board policy and procedures.

Today, Portune spoke of several changes he wanted.

But the one that drew the most response from Commissioner Pat DeWine – the lone Republican on the three-member board after David Pepper defeated Republican incumbent Phil Heimlich last fall – was a change for those on boards appointed by commissioners.

The boards review and make recommendation to commissioners on issues ranging from health care to transportation to efficiency in government.

Those wishing to serve on a commissioner-appointed task force or commission will have to reveal more personal information -- affiliations, etc. -- in their applications.

More controversial, though, is they also will have their political activity, as least concerning the board of commission, curtailed.

“The biggest change is perhaps the prohibition of any county appointee engaging in partisan political activity on behalf of any commissioner or candidate for the county commission, including contributing any money to a commissioner or candidate's campaign fund,” Portune noted.

That clause likely was intended for Finney, the former head of the Tax Levy Review Committee.
The TLRC is a commissioner-appointed volunteer group that investigates requests to place issues on the ballot seeking property tax revenue. Tax dollars help support services for children, the elderly, health care for the poor and others.

Finney also is a close friend, political supporter and business partner of Heimlich. Finney launched into a personal and profane tirade against Pepper during last year’s campaign.

DeWine said Portune’s changes would prevent individuals from making campaign contributions and participating in partisan issues but wouldn’t prevent groups or organizations from doing so.

Both Portune and Pepper were supported in their campaigns by labor unions.

“Maybe we should just call it the, ‘We don’t like Chris Finney’ rule,” DeWine told Portune during the discussion today.

Finney resigned from the TLRC days before Pepper took office.

Works for me. Better yet, how about having the county issue an official "We don't like Chris Finney" proclamation? Every citizen of Ohio except Jim Schifrin would stand up and cheer.

But hey Pat, why are you trying to block a sunshine rule? Any other hires you don't want scrutinized, like Patrick Thompson?

Heimlich lost the safest Republican seat in Ohio in part because of his under the table dealings with Finney. Let the sunshine.

Chris Finney is a great American who selflessly volunteered his time for the people of Hamilton County to fight the threats of public hospitals, public transit, and public education!

Remember - if you're against Chris Finney, you stand with the Terrorists!

Well, even according to DeWine there is no support for Finney. Big surprise. Hey, act like a jerk guess what you become. It seems Mr. Finney's arrogance is finally hit a wall. He was nothing more than a bully from the crowd and until he actually does something noteworthy except complain, that is all his public service will be. Good of Portune to have the guts to call out the problems of Hamilton County. It only remains to be seen who will Finney pick on next. Rumor is he is eyeing Kentucky. Let's hope so.

Boy, I was set to go off on Perry for the title of this article - but then low and behold it was the DeWhiner, whining this slur out.

What actually is DeWhiner whining about now - really - open government?
The rule should be called,"We don't like corruption, we don't like secret government, we don't like nepotism, we don't like self-dealing,..."

The hell with it - we don't like Chris Finney and everything he stands for ( the above)- if DeWhiner has a problem with democracy and fairness...

He advocated lower taxes because it translated to his bottom line !

He could care-less about the social responsibility to take care of those who can't take care of themselves !

Therefore; the DRAKE "culture of corruption" corporate giveaway !

PATHETIC !

Man, oh, man, EVERYBODY has it in for Christopher Finney; Dems, clear-thinking Republicans, you name it. Add the names Urling, Schifrin and maybe even Brinkman to the list of Finney's Fanatics (AKA COAST), and you have the beginnings of a long-overdue local GOP housecleaning. Once the party is purged of folks like these, we can go back to kicking the butts of the Jackass party on a regular basis, at least in the suburbs of Hamilton County and the surrounding counties. The albatross around the neck of the local GOP has been COAST and the selfish, machiavellian COAST twits who think they can do anything they damn well please as long as they get what they want.
Well, Schifrin, Urling, Finney, et al, remember what that well-known sage, Mick Jagger, sang: you can't always get what you want. And add this: stupidity is a self-correcting problem.

That fat ass Jim Schifrin is the poster child for COAST. Its good to see that the voters have finally realized that Brinkman's organization is nothing more that a hate group. Its time to give Brinkman and COAST a good flush down the crapper.

That fat ass Jim Schifrin is the poster child for COAST.

Most insidiously, Schifrin's "Whistleblower" also functions as a vacuum to collect personal dirt on politicians and others. Schifrin then channels that deragatory information to Chris Finney and others, which they use for their own purposes.

Also repugnant is the conduct of reporter Bill Sloat who has played footise with Schifrin for years. Sloat used Schifrin as a regular source when he was employed by the Plain Dealer and paid Schifrin back with a lengthy, flattering profile of Schifrin which ran in the PD a few years ago. Now Sloat runs a blog and continues to promote Schifrin.

Jim Schifrin's juvenile race-bating is well-known. Nevertheless, today he sank to a new low by mocking Todd Portune for being disabled and unable to walk. Must make Bill Sloat proud to affiliate with someone this
degraded.

I don't have a problem with keeping county *employees* from being involved in the county commissioner races. But Portune is going too far by demanding the same of volunteers. Once again Todd Portune is disrespecting the good citizens who choose to volunteer their time for all of us.

We need more people like Chris Finney, not less. He spent hundreds of hours of his own time, at no charge to the taxpayer, to keep our county's high taxes from increasing above the rate of inflation. We should reward volunteers who do their job well, not disrespect them.

To TNP: it's Republicans who raised our taxes, raised spending, and broke the law that put our party in trouble. Republicans like Bob Taft and Jean Schmidt who raised our taxes. And Republicans like Bob Taft and Bob Ney who broke the law, as well as Republicans like Jean Schmidt who broke Ohio elections laws. That's what put our party in trouble, not volunteers who worked for free to keep our taxes down.

Yeah, Jeff, we need more Republicans like Christopher Finney patting their butts while frothing foul language in front of the local media. He's a terrific example of selfless public service. Oh, and how about Finney's cooperative effort with the pro-abortion, liberal Frontier PAC from Oregon in jointly buying radio time urging Republicans NOT TO VOTE in the closing days of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's successful campaign against pseudo-Republican Paul Hackett! Another shining example of useful public service. Yes, Christopher Finney certainly stands out as a public service role model, doesn't he. He's a paradigm of local Republican prowess and pride, a credit to the party and a true uplifting force of encouragement and unity in the GOP. What a guy!

Congresswoman Jean Schmidt has a full two years to demonstrate her genuine public servant skills, her deep knowledge and understanding of the Second District and her bona fide pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, pro-defense, pro-border security, pro-fiscal Republican conservatism credentials, no thanks to her opponents like you and Christopher Finney. And in 2008 she'll be fired up and ready to rock and roll against you and your COAST cohorts as well as against the Dems. So brace yourself, babycakes. She's gonna be your representative for an extra special long time.

pro-fiscal Republican conservatism credentials

Did you write that before or after Mean Jean voted for the Democratic bill to increase the minimum wage? Mean Jean voted for Bob Taft's sales tax increase. Mean Jean voted for Bob Taft's gas tax increase. Mean Jean has been CONvicted of lying by the Ohio Elections Commission, twice. She is neither a good person nor a good representative, and that's how she's nearly lost a Safe Republican seat twice.

Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is a good Representative and a good person who's tough as hell on her opponents, which may be why you and your COAST buddies call her "mean." I hope she continues to be "mean" to you and Finney and the like. She voted for Taft's budget, as I've told you at least 4-6 times on various blogs over the past 20 months or so, because 1) the budget would have passed with or without her vote and 2) she traded her meaningless vote for the removal of 1.7 million dollars from the budget that was earmarked for Planned Parenthood. You see, Jeff, her concern for the lives of unborn human beings supersedes her dedication to fiscal conservatism, a concept that you and your fanatically anti-tax buddies reject. Apparently to you, nothing is more important than money and minimizing taxes. And she wasn't "convicted" of anything by the OEC, as you well know. Her campaign was reprimanded for two violations of campaign law concerning erroneous entries on her campaign website. Don't you ever get tired of repeating the same old, worn-out attempts to smear Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's good name? I guess not.

Jim Schiffrin's day is coming and I can't wait. He will be exposed for all that he is. Even his friend Deters wont be able to help him. Stay tuned. The day of reckoning is at hand.

Anonymous at 9:01am, 1/15, I sure do hope you are correct in saying that the proverbial axe is about to fall on Jim Schifrin. He's a trust baby, depending on his father's fortune for his livelihood. Perhaps someone will successfully sue the jerk, and it will cost him some of daddy's money. Something like that might help him to realign his priorities and clean up his act. He would definitely not be a happy camper.

TNP, you've got to quit lying for your dragon-lady Mean Jean. Bob Taft's 20% Sales Tax increase barely passed. It was not a foregone conclusion. She was always on board with it.

In fact, she voted against an alternative budget that didn't raise taxes. If Mean Jean truly felt a tax increase wasn't necessary, she wouldn't have voted against a budget that didn't raise taxes then turn around and vote for a tax increase. The Legislature did have the votes to defund Planned Parenthood. Mean Jean herself didn't come up with that excuse until 2 years after her vote.

Later Mean Jean voted for Bob Taft's Gas Tax increase. And now she's voting to tell private employers how to set their wages. The truth is, Mean Jean is a disciple of Big Government. She feels she knows how to spend your money better than you do.

Jeff, about a year ago on a different blog or two, you made the same claim about the justification of her vote being done two years after the vote itself. That's how long you've done your johnny-one-note song and dance about how awful Congresswoman Jean Schmidt was and is. You've conveniently forgotten that someone named "Starship Trooper" (ST) pulled up ALL the Greater Cincinnati Right to Life Newsletters and discovered that she made that statement very soon after the vote on Bob Taft's budget. I read the result of ST's sleuthing. Give it up, Jeff. I don't and won't lie. I just tell it straight, and when someone like you tells it crooked, folks have to decide who's telling the truth. You have an axe to grind; you and your COAST buddies, who place money and taxes on the pedestal of highest priority to the detriment of every other issue, hate Congresswoman Jean Schmidt because she won't kowtow to your fanatical anti-tax rantings and railings. As far as I can tell, the only people who believe what you write, besides you that is, are your fellow Finney's Fanatics. To me and, I think, to most other bloggers who read this stuff, you are repetitious and boring.

As I understand it, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt voted for the minimum wage increase mainly because of the passage of Issue Two in November by such a wide margin. It was obvious that a big majority of her constituents wanted her to vote for it, whether it was the best piece of legislation or not.

TNP, I have Jean Schmidt's essay that she wrote right after voting for Bob Taft's tax increases that explained why she voted for them. In an article that took an entire page in Word format, she mentioned Planned Parenthood as part of 1 sentence. The rest of the article described why the government needed our money more than we do.

This is from her own article. If you read the article you'd see it was clear she voted for Taft's tax hikes because she believed the government would spend our money better than we would.

The only thing that isn't clear is whether she wrote it herself or plagiarized the article like she does in Congress.

Jeff, it's no use. Anyone who consistently insists on referring to that lying skin-bag as "Congresswoman Jean Schmidt" is obviously either a family member or a staffer whose livelihood depends on Schmidt managing to remain in office.

Don't worry about it. The whole world knows Schmidt is going to be taken down by her own party in less than a year.

Great thread of posts on the Finney/Heimlich cabal.
Don't forget that these creeps worked with the Mallory Mafia to try to force CityLink on the inner city. These creeps supported criminal Dale Mallory and used the corrupt empowerment zone to use those government dollars to secretly push their CityLink agenda.
Nate Livingston's hate blog is the Mallory Mafia's black counterpoint to the Whistleblower.
Nate teamed with Heimlich and the Mallorys to pimp this bad CityLink concept.

A conspiracy between the Whistleblower, Mark Mallory, Phil Heimlich, Nate Livingston, and Chris Finney! I love it!

You forgot to add the Vatican, Her Majesty, Scotland Yard, and the UFO's at Area 51. That would make the conspiracy even juicier.

Jeff, produce the "essay." You called me a liar, which I'm not and never have been, and I'm saying you have no "essay" that proves anything remotely negative about Congresswoman Jean Schmidt.

Brian, it's comforting to know that using Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's name and title makes you angry. Little things like that mean a lot. Her four election victories in a row over an 18 or 19-month period have nothing whatsoever to do with my career. I'm very proud of her, but she's not a relative of mine, either. And she's not a liar. She is "mean," though; ask Jeff--he'll tell you how mean she is, so mean in fact that he and his Finney's Fanatics buddies can't seem to beat her in an election.

I saved the essay written by Congresswoman Jean Schmidt to my home computer, and when I get home I'll be happy to post it. Congresswoman Jean Schmidt barely mentioned PP.

This essay, BTW, is one that I took right off Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's website. Bookmark this link as that essay, written (or plagiarized) by Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, will be here tonight. It will expose the hypocrisy of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. We need to defeat Congresswoman Jean Schmidt at the next election. Anyone but Congresswoman Jean Schmidt.

Whoops, I actually have a copy of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's essay on my work computer too! Here is the article written (or plagiarized) by Congresswoman Jean Schmidt on April 14, 2003 to defend the Taft/Schmidt tax hikes. Planned Parenthood was barely mentioned, but she went on and on about the fiscal need to raise taxes. Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is a liar.

A Wrong Turn Leads To A Right Decision

April 14, 2003

Several weeks ago I made a wrong turn and found myself in downtown Cincinnati, near Washington Park. I witnessed a procession of men, women, and children, the urban poor, lined up on a cold wintry morning in front of the free store receiving their bag of food. As I watched, I realized that we could not turn our backs on these people in order to balance the budget.

Last week we passed a $48.5 billion dollar budget, $820 million less than the Governor’s plan, to cover the expenses we will incur over the biennium. This was no easy task or ordinary budget as Ohio faced its worst revenue crisis in decades. But we did not turn our backs on the truly needy to do it.

It is understandable that republicans are not happy with this budget. No one wants to raise taxes. With state revenue down and demand for services up it was impossible to cut enough out of the Governor’s proposed plan to balance the budget without raising revenue. If I had not made that wrong turn I might have made the wrong decision. Making that wrong turn made me realize that without an increase in revenue, services would have been so severely cut that we would not have been able to care for the truly needy: the frail, elderly, disabled, disadvantaged, or the children. Local government funds would have been eliminated, risking the financial stability of some municipalities and townships as well as libraries. Hospitals and nursing homes would have been given a ten percent cut for the services they are required to provide to our Medicaid patients on top of the cuts they have faced in the passed.

Despite this situation there are aspects of this budget we can be proud of. Serving as the Vice Chair on the Finance and Appropriations Human Services subcommittee, I had a chance to impact this budget in a positive way. I was able to restore the Abstinence Education Program and change the language in the Department of Health Family Planning line to allow more groups than just Planned Parenthood compete for the $1.7 million dollars allocated for women’s health grants. I successfully blocked proposed cuts in vital Medicaid services that help low income Ohioans, including providing funding for dental, vision, and podiatric care. I also protected the Help Me Grow program, which assists new mothers in infant care information. I also successfully fought to restore the $9 million for the food banks, which provides free food for Ohio’s hungry. In addition, I was able to secure $25,000 to aid in the operations of Clermont County’s Comprehensive Community Suicide Prevention Program.

Unfortunately not every republican was willing to vote for our plan. Thirteen republicans bolted, refusing to raise taxes even though Ohio’s most needy would have been severely impacted. The Speaker of the House had no choice but to reach out to moderate democrats for support. Five African American urban democrats did vote for the budget.

Yes, we had to enact a temporary penny sales tax to restore needed services and balance the budget. Raising taxes must always be a last choice, not a first. I believe it was the right choice. After, Ohio can never loose its heart.

Please feel free to contact Jean Schmidt. Jean may be reached through e-mail at district66@ohr.state.oh.us or write at 77 S. High Street 11th floor, Columbus, OH 43215 or call at 614-466-8134.

Get into www.atr.org, click on "Congressional Ratings" at the very top of the home page, then click on 2006 109th Congress (House), go to Ohio, scroll to Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. There you'll find that she was rated 100% for her votes in support of the American taxpayer. Anyone who bellyaches about Congresswoman Jean Schmidt being a "moderate" on taxes should be convinced of her fiscal conservative credentials by the perfect rating. Her rating in the 2005 session of the 109th Congress was 90%. Folks can decide for themselves whether Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is pro-tax or not. Watch her over the next two years, and vote for her or not in 2008 depending on how well she does. You will be pleased, I'm sure, regardless of what anyone else says, particularly if the badmouthing comes from someone associated with COAST, Tom Brinkman, Christopher Finney, Jim Urling, Jim Schifrin or "Jeff."
