Finney apologizes

Two days after unleashing a tirade of profanity, Chris Finney called everyone at the event -- even the two reporters there -- today to apologize.

"From the bottom of my heart, I apologize for my use of profanity," Finney said this morning.

Finney also talked this morning to David Pepper to apologize.

Pepper, a Democrat challenging incumbent Republican Hamilton County Commissioner Phil Heimlich, held an outdoor Tuesday press conference to announce his 10 simple rules for improving government. One was to be transparent, especially when appointing friends and business partners to boards.

Finney -- who has a real estate business with Heimlich and was appointed by Heimlich to the volunteer Tax Levy Review Committee that monitors property taxes for special purposes like services to the children and elderly -- took exception, believing Finney was taking a personal shot at Finney, a Cincinnati lawyer.

Finney attended the Tuesday press conference and, when Pepper got to the transparency issue, Finney loudly and vulgarly attacked Pepper.

Finney, also a Heimlich political supporter, accused Pepper of "smearing my name."

He then verbally attacked Pepper, telling him and his spokeswoman to "kiss my a--" and calling Pepper -- son of former Procter & Gamble chairman John Pepper -- "a rich f------- ---hole."

Finney began making telephone calls this morning.

"He gave a nice apology," Pepper said today. "I appreciate and accept his apology."

More importantly, to Pepper, Finney also apologized to Pepper's spokeswoman, Bridget Doherty, who Finney also told to kiss his behind.

"We'll get back to the campaign," Finney said.

Finney wouldn't discuss why he yelled and cursed at the Tuesday press conference, saying that discussion would detract from the sincerity of his apology.

"It is a full and unconditional apology. This is weighing on my heart a great deal," Finney said.

This still doesn't answer the questions regarding Finney & Heimlich's real estate dealings. The Enquirer should demand full public disclosure from Heimlich & Finney. We don't need Joe Deters explaining it to us.

Chris has nothing to apologize for. When a private citizen is slenderized and demonized by a (former) public official, they are right to react strongly. What Pepper accused Finney of was without merit and Pepper knew it! It was a cheap campaign trick, used at the expense of a citizen, of which Pepper is attempting to represent. The blame is on Pepper for instigating the situation. Not on Finney, for only responding the way any victim of a vicious character attack would.

As citizens of Hamilton County we should demand that Pepper apologize for his flagrant maligning of Finney’s stalwart character.

Maybe Pepper was just in one of his moods because his rich father wouldn’t lend him another 100K. Working for a living can be tough, but David Pepper would know nothing about that.

We've had a brief but instructive look inside the mind of Christopher Finney. I don't think very many people like what they saw. Is his apology too late? Time will tell. Meanwhile, Heimlich's campaign may not recover, and the cronyism has never been more blatantly displayed for all to see. It really is true:
Stupidity is a self-correcting problem.

To commuter,

David Pepper, according to the Enquirer Bolg, did not attack Phil and Chris. Pepper stated a fact, the two of them are real estate business partners, and questioned if this is a conflict of interest. David graciously accepted Chris's apology. David did not deserve Chris's verbal abuse. Anyone that knows Chris knows the type of verbal abuse he is capable of giving. Chris's actions hurt Phil. This is probably the reason for the apology. Pepper is a gentleman. The public will decide what Chris is.

I-71 Commuter appears not to have read the article.

Finney apologized. End of story.

Given what he considers acceptable standards of conduct, I-71 Commuter should be working for Heimlich. He'll fit in fine with Finney, Ron Roberts. Mike Schrimpf, and other no-accounts.

Would anyone really be surprised if it turned out that I-71 already is one of the above, working on county time, and being paid tax dollars to post pro-Heimlich comments on this blog?

Whether or not I-71's on the public payroll, I hope he/she/it is being paid by somebody to write this kind of malarky. Anyone who would defend Chris Finney without being paid to do so needs professional attention.

Why did Finney freak out like that? If his business relationship was properly disclosed to the county committees when Heimlich appointed him, Finney would have simply refuted Pepper's statements and provided all the paperwork to prove he had disclosed the real estate company back then. That's how these types of allegations are handled during political campaigns. Instead, Finney had a public meltdown.

Of course, there's the additional problem that his real estate business with Heimlich should, by any decent standard, have disqualified Finney from serving on county commissions because of the obvious conflict of interest.

My guess is that I-71 Commuter is Brian Burgess or one of the other jobless ex-McEwen staffers.

Speaking of which, anyone heard from Harlow lately?

I-71: When a private citizen is slenderized

Hilarious typo! Finney could use some slenderizing, especially down in the back 40....

Thanks for the correction (Mistake, although pretty funny). I'm definately not jobless and I'm not anyone you have mentioned, keep trying. To the anon 3:40, I make more money in a hour than you do in a week. Thanks for the attention.
All the best,
I-71 Commuter

Jeanrulz,
come up with a new role-model. Yours isn't making it past election day.
Hey Jennifer, don't you work?

well that's nice that finney the fink apologized, as well he should. but, if he were really sincere, he would resign his posts in the county - actions speak louder than words - i want to see if he does the right thing and resigns for causing the public such an embarassment from one of its committee representatives.
an apology might solve the personal issue - it does nothing to address the public issue.
by the way, did he call and apologize to the butler county board of elections toofor his outlandish comments /threats to them?
it seems finney really thinks he isheads above everyone else while abusing his position and friendships to garner such favors.

finney we don't care what weighs on your heart, we care about your ethics, PERIOD !

As an attorney, finney is compelled to avoid even the appearance of impropriety !

finney never should have accepted an appointment from someone he knew he was in business with and should resign and stay out of the political arena as long as his business partner, hindlick, is involved: PERIOD !

Somehow the sincerity of his apology is as questionable as each partner's integrity !

PATHETIC !

How classless !

Looks like the 1-71 commuter is the local drug runner that the city and county can't seem to bust !

Oh, now we see:

Protectionism !

PATHETIC !

i just want to know when finney is going to hand over an apology to the public, will that be with his resignation?
when will he apologize for cutting servicesto mr/dd? seniors?
and how about the big theft from foster kids?
apologize for that - finney.

Wow! Talk about a lapse in judgment. While, as an attorney, Finney does not have to avoid the appearance of impropriety (that is an ethical cannon that specifically applies to judges), he is held to a higher professional standard. Apology or no apology, I think the damage has been done. Heimlich should really pick his political "cronies" a bit more carefully.

I-71 Commuter, who's going to beat Jean? Your boy McEwen couldn't, and God knows Brinkman never has a say in anything that goes on in Cincinnati politics.

Oh I get it, Nate Noy's going to beat Jean, that's right! I forgot, silly me.

It appears that attorney Chris Finney is in trouble again. Friday's Enquirer "COAST" lawyer criticized for tirade! Finney needs help before he goes postal and shoots someone. These are not the actions of a stable individual. If Finney hurts someone in one of his fits of anger Hamilton County should be held liable. It is easy to see that Finney is out of control and is dangerous.

Finney is an excellent person. He who helps chase our educational institutions with meaningless threatened lawsuits. This helps Ohio and Cincinnati keeps the number of people with bachelors degrees at the minimum.

Looks like someone was schooled by a wRong wingnut !

For the RECORD:

CPR Canon 9. A Lawyer Should Avoid Even the Appearance of
Professional Impropriety.

PATHETIC !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2006 !

Everytime Finney practices law he violates CPR Connon 9. Its time for him to check in and get treated for his mental disorder before he goes postal. Finney is a very unstable person right now.

Nick Owen, er... phone boy, don't you have anything better to do than post pro-Schmidt bunk in a blog post about Heimlich and Pepper?
