But what would they talk about in October?

The usual "debate over debates'' is starting early in the Ohio governor's race.

Last week, when Republican Ken Blackwell started poking fun at Ted Strickland for sending his wife Frances and some policy advisers to a Columbus meeting of university trustees (and suggested that Strickland might send his friend Barack Obama to gubernatorial debates), Strickland said that anytime Blackwell wanted a face-to-face debate, he'd be ready.

Apparently, anytime is this week.

Blackwell's campaign put out a list of proposed dates, cities and times for June gubernatorial debates Monday - a schedule that would begin on Thursday at an unspecificed location in Youngstown. Blackwell's campaign suggested one for Monday, June 19 in Cincinnati, and three more in Columbus June 20-22.

The Blackwell campaign doesn't have any suggested venues for the five "debates'' and it is unlikely the two campaigns could work out the details and ground rules in time to start this week. So, the Blackwell campaign had a suggestion:

"Each week, Blackwell will issue a new list of proposed times and dates with the hope that a few will accomodate Strickland's schedule,'' a Blackwell press release said.

Late Monday afternoon, the Strickland campaign put out a press release expressing delight that Blackwell had agreed to debates, but did not commit to the June schedule Blackwell proposed. Instead, Strickland's campaign said it had designated David Wilhelm, the long-time political operative from Athens, Ohio who is a former Democratic National Committee chairman, to negotiate a debate schedule with the Blackwellites.

No score after one inning. Blackwell's turn to bat.

The GOP hasn't got any dirt on Strickland so their attacks center on Strickland's wife and his busy schedule.

That sure does say something about Strickland, if that's all they can come up with!

Vote Ted!

blackwell is desperate for attention because his numbers aren't good right now

Stuck in the 1970's, we listen in to Ted Strickland on his CB radio: Breaker Breaker this is BIG TED commin' at ya good buddy 10-4, where's the next choke-n-puke so I can talk to some people?

Meanwhile, Blackwell sends an email and effectively communicates 1000's of loyal supporters across Ohio's fruited plain at the touch of a button from his laptop.

Ted Strickland takes his job and his responsibilities to his district seriously. That's a sharp contrast to Taftwell, who has been campaigning for governor ever since his second party switch.

Buckwheat blackwell must have plenty of time on his hands if his literary remains open at the wish of Strickland.

We have always know he doesn't care about doing the job the voters pay him to do !

Isn't there some more voters he can suppress or diebold voting machines he can fix ?

The problem with blackwell's request is that he did not file his requests with the proper authorities and on the wrong weight of paper.

He must make his request on the proper form and deliver it personally

The people of state of Ohio can step up to the plate and into the land of the conscientious by paying close attention to the way Mr. Blackwell "managed" the last election.

The facts are availble and we are in dire need of a change.

Stickland for Governor.

Voted Republican in a lot of elections but geez, Ken Blackwell is really beyond the pale.

Have had a long look at this governor's race and I'm sick of the way Blackwell fudged and fibbed on the 04 elections. Hate to see it.

'Goin' with Strickland on this one, definitely.

Peoples' votes should be fairly counted. Under Blackwell, they weren't.

SOS office has until July 15 to certify the other two candidates, Green-Fitrakis and Lbertarian-Pierce after they turned in over double number of signatures needed. Funny how he so quick to start the debate process when he has been unwilling to speak in public, only to private audiences. Perhaps he is afraid of candidates who are willing to raise REAL issues and call him out for this TOTAL INCOMPETENCE IN ADMINISTERING THE '04 ELECTION. His actions has made Ohio the laughing stock of the nation (and world) and has caused a large percentage of the entire population to question the validity of the results.

WHY NOT WAIT TO DEBATE ALL THE CANDIDATES, MR BLACKWELL?

Let's just tell it like it is.

I am a west-sider, Elder grad, XU alumnus, registered Republican since the 1960s. I had VIP tickets to Bush I and Bush II rallies here.

I voted for Bush in 2004. I am so conservative that I did not vote for Leslie Ghiz for City Council, just the other 3 Republicans.

But this year, I am so tired of the lies and manipulations of the Republican Party that I am voting straight-ticket Democrat.

Go Cranley!
Go Pepper!
Go Strickland!

The problem is Blackwell has no integrity. He would do anything to get ahead.

Emulating Katherine Harris by agreeing to be chairman of the 'Reelect Bush" campaign for the state of OH during an election that it was his duty as SEcretary of State to administer. That election should have been above the pale. And it wasn't.

Right in our own backyard, Warren County Board of Elections is caught lieing about a terrorist threat warning, that was pre-planned but did not extend to an elementary school withing 100 yards.

In Clermont County there are white stickers on the optiscan ballots.

Where exactly is the press and their duty to defend democracy.

Would the Toledo Blade ignore a story like this?

Your not the only conservative that feels that way.

Hell, the way the government wants to pry into the personal life of Americans is outlandish.

National ID number, phone tapping, email searching and website visiting that makes me think daddy bush sold the country for an antidote while puking at the slant eye table.

I'm protecting my right to bear arms.

The terrorist is our government.

I understand those frustrated with the Ohio Republican government, but stop and think about how much worse Strickland would be! Think of the reasons you don't like Taft, and you'll quickly realize Strickland will be a lot more like him than Blackwell.

Strickland is not prepared or qualified/fit to be governor. If you want to see change, vote according to your beliefs, and then spend time contacting the offices of your elected officials! Do it often, and talk to them in person as often as you can. Go to your county central committee meetings, meet people, and get involved. Take all your friends and family with you. Right letters and e-mails.

Voting for a Democrat won't solve your problems--it will double the wrongdoing and send us into a state of poverty--morally and financially!

Blackwell is a criminal and a liar ... what make you think the man that helped steal the 2004 election, 2005 and working to steal 2006 is going to be better than the convicted criminal Taft? Yeah right .... if you want the corruption to continue vote repug.

Apparently Ken Blackwell is taking the Jean Schmidt approach when challenged to a debate...

A message from someone who truly cares about the people who live in Ohio... (Some of the greatest people that I've ever met...)
