McEwen's campaign party now almost empty

Campaign volunteers Michael Klenk of Warren County and Mark Faust of Clermont County, both 12, hang the sign for Bob McEwen's hopeful celebration party during the GOP Primary at the New England Club. (Photo by Jeff Swinger/The Cincinnati Enquirer)

Minutes after Bob McEwen conceded the 2nd District GOP primary to Rep. Jean Schmidt, a somber crowd of about 100 supporters began clearing out of the New England Club in Anderson Township.

McEwen and his wife, Liz, stood in the hallway shaking hands with everyone as they left. McEwen's eyes were red and his voice wavered as he thanked supporters for their help.

Asked if he will now support Schmidt's campaign in the general election, McEwen said: ""Sure. Well, sure, of course."

Meanwhile, other supporters took down his "McEwen for Congress" sign that only a few hours ago a few excited children had strung up over the window.

The blue and white tablecloths are gone. The food is being packed away. All but one TV camera are now gone. And in the background, the music is playing "God Bless the USA."

Typical Schmidt anonymous supporter above. You can't even win with grace.

Your candidate won. Congratulations. Your candidate lied - that's an undeniable fact. I'd be ashamed to win by lying, but you have no shame because you have no dignity.

What you'll never know you is that the 2nd District, and America by extension, has lost the opportunity to be represented by one of the greatest, most graceful and respectable gentlemen of this generation.

Please save your pathetic sarcasm and ungrateful comments. We just don't care about your snide remarks.

McEwen has stated he will support your inept, lying, mockery of a representative. Try to be grateful for that.

If I were him, I'd pursue legal action against Schmidt for bald-face lying on her latest TV ads. But McEwen's a much better man than me. Instead, he does what a gentleman does. He concedes defeat in a graceful manner and supports his unworthy, sleazy, lying, opponent in the general election.

You are the scum of the earth to make such a remark about such a God-fearing, respectful man such as Bob McEwen.

You and your ilk don't deserve another moment of my time, so this is the last I will return to this blog, thanks to you.

May you RIH with the rest of those who bear false witness.

God bless Bob and Liz McEwen!

Collin

I am sure you would like our support but you should not be the one asking for it. Your comments before the election and after were mean spirited. You did and continue on several other posts to be very nasty with your comments. I should think that someone in the Schmidt camp with a little class should ask for our support. You are what is wrong with politics. You called Bob every name in the book and said alot of things that were not true about him. I think now is the time for you to show some class if you have any. You have not proven that you have any up to this point.

To the Schmidt people congrats you won. I don't agree with the choice but that is how it goes. Please consider that when you talk bad about Liz and Bob that you are attacking 2 very good people. You may not be on their side. I just want you all to think if it was you who wanted to serve in congress and were called the names they were and had the lies told about you that were told about them.

Now is the time to be nice. Jean does not have my support(even though Bob has said he will support her, I wonder if Jean would have shown that class??) She may get it and alot of others. Remember over 40% OF people voted for Bob. That is alot of votes that you will need. Don't lose them by acting like a bunch of jerks.
And Collin, you probably should just be quiet for awhile. Your actions pissed alot of people off.

Collin,
May you also RIH with your pathetic excuse for a representative.

Collin:

I am assuming that RIH means Rot in Hell.

Is that really how you respond to someone who disagrees with you?? Is that really the kind of class you have?? Can you actually sit down and discuss issues with out name calling and insulting someone??

I would be ashamed if I was Jean and knew you supported me with that kind of garbage. I know that there are a lot of good people out there that support Jean. But please show a little class. Name calling and insulting is so grade school.

Collin's comments before the election and last night have been spot on, and completely appropriate.

I do disagree with him about one thing, though. Now is not the time to reach out to Brinkman, Finney, etc. It is the time to remove them and the influence they have on public life. We should not reconcile with people who have been so hateful and nasty.

to "useful idiot":

You admonished the Schmidt voters to "stop with the juvenile crap." Only after you referred to Congresswoman Schmidt as "Mean Jean." You really are an idiot, aren't you? An idiot with no sense of irony. Read your own post. If you want to "stop with the juvenile crap" better start with yourself first!
