It's Schmidt: McEwen concedes

Former U.S. Rep Bob McEwen has conceded the 2nd congressional district primary to incumbent Republican Jean Schmidt.

Tonight, the voters of the Republican Party have made their choice," McEwen told a somber crowd as his wife, Liz, and daughter, Meredith, stood beside him.

"I must admit that I am somewhat surprised and significantly disappointed," McEwen said.

What a sad day for the 2nd district...

Now Jean, put a steak through the heart of the nastiness that is C.O.A.S.T.

Thanks for the spoiler, Kraus! In an election this important, you should have stepped aside.

Congratulations to Congresswoman Jean Schmidt!

Looks like somebody should investigate vote fraud in Clermont County. When I voted no one checked my identification. McEwen should request a recount.

I'm so happy as a Democrat that Schmidt won; she is a great shining example of the blatant stupidity, and lies that run rampant throught the republican party. Go get another fake degree Jean

Indeed a bleak day for Ohio's 2nd. What an embarrasmnet!

Hold he presses. This past week I have spoken with a current Clermont County elected official who is well known and popular. HE is planning to take JS on in 2008. He can whip her hands down!

If she didn't win she was going to sue her way to the election just like Gore tried to do. She's a politician at best and not a shining example of anything. I honestly liked her Murtha comment but she's just another big government Republican.

Hey Democrat poster-

The 2nd district is the most pro-Republican district in Ohio. So your happiness is going to be short-lived. Jean Schmidt is going to crush whatever no-name candidate runs for the democRATs in November.

i feel sorry for you mcewen supporters.

it must be horrible to lose so much.

so tell us, is bob bawling his eyes out again, or did he just start packing?

I'm sad to live in a district where anonymous people come on and make such mean comments. Perhaps we all deserve someone like Jean.

at 12:16 AM, May 03, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Get over it people! Both candidates spent a lot of time and money trying to tell us why NOT to vote for the their opponent. We have two candidates now let's move on and actually have a campaign that focuses on the issues.

at 12:16 AM, May 03, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

No doubt Kraus and Constable allowed for her to win.

at 12:16 AM, May 03, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Assuming Jean beats the Dem contender, we get two years of this mean-spirited little party player. Oh, Jean, please wear your sexy American flag coat again!

at 12:18 AM, May 03, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I totally agree that as a Democrat you can't pick a better candidate to make the Republican party look ridiculous. Come on, how can you not know what you did in college, what degree they gave you? She is a total fool. I'm so glad that I do not live in that district.

How do I emigrate to Canada knowing that Bush and Schmidt are in charge of this country?

anyone know if Joe Uecker is going to run in 2008? That is a great man for the job.. He could bring integrity back to an area that has been made to look riduculous on a national level by a flag waving, bible thumping moron.

This just proves that the people of Ohio (especially the 2nd district) have no clue what they are doing. Schmidt is fraud, and most of all, a liar. The other candidate is really no different. I just find it amusing that so many of you are blindly led by politicians like this.

Well not a surprise. It seems the Schmidt supporters are celebrating just as expected. With no class!!! Have you ever heard of repect or being gracious in winning or losing. Bob was very nice in his speech and he said he is supporting Jean. Now it would be nice if some of the people here can stop the name calling and be happy with the result. You may not have liked Bob for reasons that are up to you and I repect that. However I do know that Bob is a very good person who was truly interested in representing the people in the right way here. Many of you did not feel the same way. That is fine that is the way politics go. But maybe now it is time to stop name calling and putting down Bob and Liz.

Jean won and congratulations. If you would like support from some of us it is time to have a little class.

Why emigrate to Canada . . . when you can simply come to TEXAS!!!

Vote Schmidt / God for President/ VP in '08

at 12:43 AM, May 03, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ms. Schmidt is a very unprofessional legislator. This State is behind the times and voting her in is a sign that the voters are still thinking WMD's exist and that invading Iraq was an effective use of time, talent and treasure. Ohio has a widening poverty gap, the highest foreclosure rate in the U.S. and the likes of voters who think Ms. Schmidt is good for the 100,000 innocent Iracquis killed by Americans authorized by a president that that violates laws concerning spying, not to mention his disdain for non-heterosexuals. Come on Ohioans. Give free thought a chance. Change is good. Embrace it by dumping suit happy Schmidt.

Looks like Clermont County was the culprit in giving her the Primary. Looks like they need to read the news more, or perhaps just learn how to read to start with...

Good Grief

Jean Schmidt is a disgrace to the Republican party. She embodies the worst of qualities: blind support for the war on Iraq, virulent neophyte speech-monger, and lying about her education.

The woman has baggage and it isn't classy.

I had hoped that she would be cut...and then have to run...home!

God help me, but I might just have to vote Democratic this fall.

at 12:51 AM, May 03, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

At least one good thing....

More people voted AGAINST Jean than for her!

That should send her a message that the Clermont County Corrupt Party (CCCP) Machine is not invulnerable.

lol ! someone said "Vote Schmidt / God for President/ VP in '08" putting Jean before God! lol!
Thanks for giving the democrats a potential big win in '06.

Sad to see the "pro" democrat vs republican debate has come to petty name calling. I wonder what it's going to take to get youto see that our country is dying quickly at the hands of an unchecked congress and president. We freaking borrowed 20 billion from OPEC (of which we can only afford to pay the interest off for the next 20 years) to pay for the war! Both sides of the isle are to blame for this BS. When a baby is born in America they are already $27,000.00 in debt (that is their share of the national debt).

The US Treasury Dept. says that we borrow $36 million every hour. Just cut and paste the link. Read it for yourselves.
http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opd.htm

The Chinese have promised to pull out 100% of the US Bond market by the end of 2006. Where are we going to find a trillion dollars to replace that? Why would they do that I am always asked. How do you defeat your enemy best? Invite your enemy to take advantage of lowcost production (move production to your end), buy up as many large corporations as possible then pull the finacial rug out from underneith your enemy. We are sitting ducks.

That said, you are bickering over fat cats that don't give a crap about you only their own interests.

Go ahead and live in your dream world. The bubble will pop very soon.

Don't say you haven't been warned.

I’m genuinely not surprised to see Schmidt supporters comment so ungraciously and so irreverently. This is typical of followers of tyrannical, vindictive, incompetent and ungracious individuals masquerading as “leaders.”

Only God knows for certain what’s in store for two of the most wonderful, gracious, people (if you only took the time to know them), such as Bob and Liz McEwen. Rest assured, their future holds something far more important to God’s glory than representing the unfortunate, deceived, less-than-majority-of-voters in the 2nd District.

Jean Schmidt will someday face our Creator and will have to explain why she lied and slandered two of His most humble and productive servants. But He is a gracious God and will forgive her -- if she confesses her sins to Him and to those she deceived.

Bob and Liz know that persecution is the price devoted Christ followers will surely pay while serving our Lord and Savior. But the persecution is very painful during the time it occurs. My heart is broken for them tonight. I pray that the Lord bestows upon them the peace that surpasses all understanding that He has promised to His followers.

Unfortunately, Jean Schmidt has obviously never learned the meaning of sacrifice. She only knows the meaning of self-aggrandizement; self-promotion and the belief that others were put here on Earth solely for her use and abuse. The evidence of such acts are that she lied to save herself from certain defeat.

Bob and Liz McEwen have sacrificed their entire lives by devoting it to serving and placing the needs of others before their own, all for the glory of God. (Just ask their four adopted children).

May God have mercy on Jean Schmidt’s soul the day she departs this world. I wouldn’t trade places with her for anything -- not even a seat in Congress.

God bless Bob and Liz McEwen! Despite the election results, please know that many, many friends out here in the blogisphere and beyond love you dearly.

AS a Republican,I was offended by McEwen campaign literature-a letter from his wife!!!!!explaining that her uncle was former head of the Cincinnati Bible Academy and that her father was a legal immigrant! What is up with this?!Who were these 2 trying to appeal to? At least Jean Schmidt is not intimidated by the Good Old Boy Do Nothings in Congress. She will shake them up in Washington.Go Jean!

To quote Kevin Pick "you f-ing c$#@suckers, you f-ing stole the election..." and many more profanities. Now who are the poor sports?

Better Schmidt than Murtha. Thank God.

I can only hope I just read a joke and not a real comment about 'facing God one day' and 'answering to sins'. Christians all over the country look bad because of people like you. Calling another person, or group of people 'vindictive, tyrannical, and incompetent, and in the same comment saying that someone will one day have to stand before God?? Are you kidding me?? Keep your own judgements about people to yourself and stop trying to speak on behalf of a deity that you obviously do not fully understand. Both candidates said things about the other that was not 'nice', so move on. Relax. If Big Bob had won, I doubt you would be defending Jean. You are just as sore a loser as anyone else, and maybe even worse since you want to use God as your excuse to sound like a moron. For the record, they may both be nice people, but neither should be in office. And to everyone out there that likes to armchair quaterback the country and criticize who we elect to office, why not run for office yourself since you know everything and shut up. We have heard it all already.

So anonymous, Bob is perfect? Bob never lied? C'mon. Bill Clinton has nothing on that guy and the only explanation we got was "I'm born again, so none of that matters." He never admitted (acted like he never saw the Highland County letter) or answered one question past a short scripted answer, and that is why many of us voted for Schmidt.

I don't like all of this back and forth, and both sides are guilty of it, although Bob started the negative mailers & TV commercials first and I didn't think Schmidt's response was as bad as it could have been.

We can all be forgiven, you are right. But your guy had just as much baggage and would have probably ended up charged with a felony before the general. Would you call on Bob to repent of his lies against Schmidt? Of course not, you think it's OK when he does it because hatred is what's in your heart...perhaps you should look inward to find the peace that transcends all understanding. Don't try to fool a fellow bible-thumper with discernment levels tweaked by age...it won't fly.

an out of towner that supports an out of towner. how..ironic?

so did bob move back to VA yet? or is he still trying to leash up liz? oh, i shouldnt be so harsh. losing must have been tough on the kids. after all, bob did splurge all of their inheritance, what little they had left. at least jonathan is able to bring some dignity to that family.
