Parker wows Clermont Democrats

If they gave out door prizes at candidate forums, Jim Parker, a Democratic candidate in the 2nd Congressional District, would almost always walk away with the prize for "candidate who traveled the farthest to attend.''

Parker, a health care administrator from Pike County in the far eastern reaches of the seven-county district, has been wearing grooves into the James A. Rhodes Appalachian Highway lately, making the 200-mile round-trip from his home in Waverly several times a week to Democratic forums in eastern Hamilton County, Warren County and the western edge of Clermont.

He did it again Saturday afternoon, showing up with three of his fellow 2nd District candidates and a platoon of local and statewide candidates at the candidate forum sponsored by Clermont County's Quin-T Democrat Club at the Union Township Civic Center in Eastgate.

Parker should have gotten not only the "candidate who traveled farthest'' door prize, but one for "best use of props in a stump speech.''

When Parker was called to the lectern to speak (a rickety old lectern that Quin-T president Paul Campbell said was used by Bill Clinton in his 1992 Labor Day speech at Coney Island), he set a large, empty plastic jar on the table in front of him.

"Don't let me forget to tell you about the jar before I sit down,'' Parker said.

He then launched into a six-minute speech about what he sees as the failures of the Bush adminstration, the Republicans in Congress, and the 2nd District incumbent, Jean Schmidt, in particular.

During a riff about his contention that the war in Iraq was a needless endeavor, he said "I'm going to tell you something that might cost me the election, but I'm going to say it anyway.''

"Even if Saddam Hussein had never been born, 9/11 would have happened anyway,'' Parker said.

He whipped a box-cutter out of his jacket pocket and waved it over his head.

"There were no weapons of mass destruction,'' Parker said. "This is the weapon of mass destruction that was used to take down that plane that came down in that field in Pennsylvania. It's the only weapon of mass destruction that's ever been used against the United States.''

He wound up talking about health care, racing to finish after a timekeeper from the Glen Este High School Young Democrats Club waved a 30-secod warning sign at him.

"Okay, the jar,'' Parker said, starting to walk back to his seat. "Can't forget about the jar. That's the jar that contains George W. Bush's health care plan. It's just like the jars you see at the cash registers in convenience stores all over the district, put there by people trying to raise money to pay medical bills. There's something wrong about people having to do that.''

Parker took his place among the other candidates to a long round of applause from the 60 Democrats in the room.

leave it to Howard to write a glowing story about a democrat with zero chances of being elected.

I guess he is just doing his part for the team.

Did he wow the conspiracy buffs, like Bob Fitrakis?

You know, the real journalist that's running for Governor?

I am glad that I stopped back at the house for a minute and got to see this...

If anybody believes that I have zero chances of being elected, then answer one question... Why are Jean Schmidt and Bob McEwen spending so much time in the Eastern half of the District? Why are they talking to Democrats? It is because they know that nobody wins this election without the support of people from every corner of the District.

I understand that and I've met more people in this District than any other Democratic candidate.

57 more days and then I can rest. Or maybe I'll have to keep up the fight for 6 more months. For now, I'll just focus on Tuesday, May the 2nd. I promise, if I win this primary, this becomes a national campaign overnight...

I've got ten things to do and then I'm off to see more people because that's what this election is all about to me.. The People of Southern Ohio...

Let's Fight an "Effective" War on Terror

Democratic Candidate for US Congress
Southern Ohio - 2nd District - 2006

The ONLY Democrat who WILL NOT raise your taxes...

I'm glad we've started with the "zero chance to be elected crap." That is the way to distinguish the good candidates from the lap dogs.

You are most definitely a Jean Schmidt supporter because anybody in their right mind would realize that the only result we have given the people of Southern ohio is to show how we have continuously lost the election in the 2nd District for the last 32 years.

If you help the wrong candidate win the primary, you will find yourself reading newspaper articles about Bob McEwen or Jean Schmidt for the next 15 years. We have proven this many times before. The re-election of Jean Schmidt or Bob McEwen will be a result of YOUR efforts. This is preventable.

This is the most conservative Congressional District in Ohio. No Democrat has won the election in this District in the last 32 years. Republicans outnumber Democrats 3 to 1. If you want to win, you have to change how you play the game. People vote the way their families have always voted. People vote their values. We can pretend this is not reality but we "know" that it is...

I can help you. Give the Republican voters of Southern Ohio a Democratic candidate who can talk about terrorism. Give them a Democratic candidate who can talk about the economy. Give them a Democratic candidate who can talk about healthcare. Give them a candidate who doesn't threaten their values but isn't a representative of extreme political views. Give them a candidate who WILL NOT raise their taxes. Does anybody remember the TAX commercials that they ran against Paul Hackett last year? I do and so do you.

I am the only choice that you have who meets all of those criteria. Anything else will most definitely lose the election for you again. The choice is yours. What on earth do you have to lose?

There are incredible people who live in Southern Ohio. I've been to more than 1,000 of your homes. I have enjoyed meeting all of you. It has been an honor and a privilege to hear you open your hearts and your minds to me. I want to be the person to help you with your family's problems and with Ohio's future. But that's not up to me. That's entirely up to you.

Jim Parker
Democratic Candidate for US Congress
Southern Ohio - 2nd District -2006

Jim Parker for Congress - the ONLY Democrat who WILL NOT raise your taxes. I propose a middle class tax for every family that earns less than $100,000 per year.

I've got news for some people - if Mean Jean Schmidt is the Republican nominee, any Democrat immediately becomes viable.

dude, get a freakin' life. You don't have a chance or clue for that matter.

This is great. We have Parker with his empty jar, Sinnard with his 5 smooth stones, Thor with his hammer and Hackett doing something with bodies in Iraq.

No, We have Jim Parker proposing ideas and solutions for HEALTHCARE, the ECONOMY and the WAR in Iraq...

I support a MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUT for every family that earns less than $100,000 per year.

I support an expansion of the CHILD TAX CREDIT for working families from age 17 to age 18 (and to age 24 for families with dependents who are full-time students).

If the politicians in Washington want to talk about taxes, let's make them put their money where their mouthes are... The days of political rhetoric and campaign soundbytes in Southern Ohio are over. I believe in solutions, not garbage politics.

I support Congressman Murtha's military strategy for the war in Iraq. As a matter of fact, he is the only person who has offered a reasonable plan. By working in healthcare, I learned a long time ago to listen to the experts. Murtha is a military expert.

The current startegy of leaving American soldiers in harms way without a plan... Allowing them to be subjected to the dangers of improvised explosive devices without proper body armor... Staying the course without a plan... This is ludicrous!

I support an EXPANSION OF THE MEDICARE PROGRAM FROM AGE 65 TO AGE 55 WITHOUT RAISING TAXES. We need to free our families and small businesses from the crippling cost of health insurance. The President has proposed a high deductible / high out of pocket plan for every American family. I have proposed a plan FOR EVERY AMERICAN FAMILY.

I support and will fight for HEALTH INSURANCE FOR THE 8 MILLION AMERICAN CHILDREN WHO DO NOT HAVE IT NOW. This will be one of my top priorities. Absolutely and without exception.

I will NEVER BE A RUBBER STAMP for anyone!

This is a campaign for the middle class, the baby boom generation of America, and every single child and family that lives in Southern Ohio. Thank you for sharing your lives with me.

I have personally gone to the homes of more than 1,000 families who voted in last year's primary and, today, I am starting to visit 1,500 more families. That is the most that I can do while working full-time in healthcare everyday.

I live 100 miles away from most of the people who are going to vote in this election and the only way that I can possibly win is to work 10 times as hard as everybody else. That is what I have done throughout my entire career. That is what I will ALWAYS do for you. My campaign is ALL ABOUT YOU...

Jim Parker is unapproachable and unresponsive. I've tried to contact Jim Parker at least 10 times and he has never once returned my phone calls.

Your comment is truly unbelievable. First of all, I am available 24-7 for the people of Southern Ohio. Is it is possible that you have the wrong phone number? I'm not sure what it is that you have to say but I am most certainly willing to listen.

To be honest, NOBODY has ever called me unapproachable and unresponsive in my entire life...

I hope that I can help you with your concern.

The support that I received on election day... The incredible number of people who voted for me... Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for listening to the message of hope that I worked tirelessly to spread all across Southern Ohio.

Everybody thought that it would take money. I knew that all it would take was time, effort and kindness. Thank you for believing in me as much as I believe in you. Because of you, I have met thousands of people all throughout Southern Ohio from Waverly and Portsmouth all the way to Cincinnati and everywhere in between. Thank you for opening your homes to me as I opened my heart to you. You have given me the experience of a lifetime!

Former Candidate for US Congress
Southern Ohio - 2nd District - 2005 & 2006

Jim Parker has been speaking all over Southern Ohio for years.

JIM PARKER understands what the ECONOMY means to people. He has lots of ideas about how to improve HEALTHCARE in America. He believes that everyone should have a chance at the American Dream.

He says what he means. He believes what he says. I think JIM PARKER should run for CONGRESS again!
