Mallory in "High Spirits"
State Sen. Mark Mallory will be in high spirits tonight, whether he wins or loses his bid to become Cincinnati's next mayor.
Mallory's election party is in High Spirits Lounge, on the 31st floor of the Millennium Hotel downtown. The second level of the lounge, called Ventana d'Italia, will also be open to guests. And campaign spokesman Jason Barron said he expects to fill the place.
"We had 200 volunteers out on the streets," Barron said. "And we'll have the first directly elected African American mayor since the 1930s. So I think it will be a heckuva party."
A crew from the Ohio News Network is setting up in the lounge, along with the Steve Schmidt Trio, a three-piece jazz band.
The band has played many Mallory functions, from campaign events to the elder Mallory's 50th wedding anniversary party. And, yes, all three members of the band voted for Mallory today.
"Hey, the guy's paying me," Schmidt said.
Mallory himself planned to spend the next hour or so with family and supporters before joining his party at the Millennium Hotel downtown between 8:30 and 9 p.m.
About a dozen Mallory volunteers and supporters have trickled into the lounge so far, and the band is playing.

Can't wait for the official election results. I am getting caught up from Canada only because I know firsthand, while I visited Cincinatti, as to how hard Mallory's team has worked to support him. I wish Mallory and his team great success and let me be the first to Congratulate him and his team. Sorry I couldn't be there for the celebrations!!
I guess I can see where Canadians get their examples of ignorant Americans....from people such as yourself. Don't tell me...you voted for BUSH...eh?
As for the Frostback name...don't tell me again..you live in Miami right? Or should I believe that you are really in Cincinatti relaxing in the outdoor pool with your Cocktail!!!
You are funny...drink Maple Syrup huh? I guess that means you put Molasses on your pancakes and waffles??? Dumb American...I guess I would be right to assume you voted for Pepper!!
You are right about one thing..there is no such place as Cincinatti where you are because you are obviously in your own world.
Didn't a band play when the Titanic went down also?
I don't quite understand the bitterness between mallory and pepper supporters. They are both from what i can tell mod democrats who agree on the general importantness of the election, crack down on crime, city hall reform, etc. im from the burbs so i cant vote, but im would like peoples opinion, in a civil way.
From what I can tell, one demarcator appears to be business. Pepper is more business-friendly, a Democrat that Republicans can vote for. Mallory is not.
Another difference is civil rights, race issues, whatever you want to call it. There is a perception - right or wrong - that Mallory is more sensitive, more of a "uniter," to many of his supporters. That's why he has more support from liberals.
the malignance comes from Pepper supporters being immature elitists (probably Republicans forced to choose a Democrat)- look at OFC- for example - calling the Canadian names and whipping out the racial slurs and stereotypes. it's the good ole boys versus people who actually want a decent candidate they feel can build bridges but when they say so...the Pepper clan has to pull out some deregoratory or judgemental comment like oh you must be some black ghetto trash or some ignorant fool from college hill/ westside. they have a clan mentality if you haven't noticed and they pick fights and sometimes the other side fights back...though usually not with the pervasive ignorance or childish banterings of the Pepper people.
