We apologize

Blogger seems to be having some hiccups today. If you want to talk about the election, I'd suggest the discussion board at Enquirer.com

to hell with blogger: what's wrong at the Board of Elections?

It's after 9:30 and all news stations and The Enquirer are still reporting 0% precincts even though 30,000 votes have been tallied for issues, and only absentee ballots for city council.

Amen. Its now after 1 AM and Im still waiting on the 5 final precincts.

I agree. How is the BOE still so screwed up?
I live in Sycamore Twshp. and was not able to vote for Cincinnati City Council? I was able to vote for Issue #27. Why not Council? This does not make sense to me. Can anyone explain it to me??

It's all part of Simon Lies's plan to "destroy" people.

He's starting there.

Bwahahahaha. What an idiot.

It's time for a REAL Republican Sheriff.

Yes... you don't live in Cincinnati. Just like you don't vote for Montgomery City Councilmembers because you live in Sycamore Township, and just like how I, as a Cincinnati resident, don't vote for Sycamore Twp. Trustee.

The 0% reporting is because the numbers shown at that time were the absentee ballots.

As for the Sycamore Township person, you should know that Sycamore Township is a seperate community from the City of Cincinnati. Despite having a Cincinnati mailing address, which most people in Hamilton County have, it doesn't mean you live within the city limits.

Everyone in Ohio lives in either a township, city, or village. One cannot be in both at the same time.

Presumably, you had the option of voting for Sycamore Township Trustee and Sycamore Township Fiscal Officer. That being the case, you do not get to vote for the City of Cincinnati council candidates.

This used to confuse me, too, but the map that the Hamilton County Engineer hands out is very helpful in showing the boundaries between townships, cities, and villages.

You are not the only one to be thrown by this. In 2001, a neighbor of mine wanted to launch a federal investigation about his voting rights being violated because he couldn't vote for mayor of Cincinnati. He thought because he worked in Cincinnati (and paid income tax) and had a Cincinnati mailing address that he lived in Cincinnati.

In all seriousness, I showed him and gave him the map in my glove box from the County Engineer's office and showed him his property record on the County Auditor's website and eventually it sank in. (I also told him the lack of yard signs around us should have been a clue, too.)

as usual, the enquiReR misses the real story, the continued removal of corupt Repugnicants from public office. Slowly but surely, the American people are removing this heinous scum from the face of the Earth.

Seriously??? Are you really asking this question? Sycamore Township is not part of Cincinnati. It has its own elected officials. It is part of Hamilton County, which is where the sales tax (Issue 27) would take effect. Good lord. When will we ever have an informed electorate?

Do you not understand the difference between living in the city of Cincinnati and living within Hamilton County?
Issue #27 was a county issue. City Council is responsible to and voted on by the citizens of the city of Cincinnati.
Please educate yourself on the various governmental jurisdictions under which you live.

.

Here we go again, typical wRong wingnut whackos blaming technical glitches for being lazy !

One more wRong wingnut whacko judge off the bench, as Mallory lowers the gavel !

Sane old, same old council as bird-ling receives wake-up call !

Let's see how he grand-stands on that one !

He owes Burke, Strickland "BIG TIME" !

A (female) member of our own family refused to vote for Issue 27, citing there are people in there that should not be in there so why would I want to give them more rooms ?

Oh well !

HAD ENOUGH:

VOTE DEMOCRAT 2008 !

OK, so the Enquirer Blogger had the hiccups. It happens.

What I'm interested in is the extremely slow returns on the ballots last evening. The baloney the voters have been fed from this John Williams at the BOE & Tim Burke is completely unacceptable. They've blamed everyone & everything but themselves.

New administration (Dems at State) & new people is no excuse. They've had months to prepare for this election. Months.

Granted, the machinery was new last year. You hear me? Last year. They had a whole year to figure out how to effectively use the equipment.

I think it's time for some housecleaning at the Hamilton County BOE. If they can't do the job swiftly & accurately, then they need to go. BTW, my absentee ballot was weeks late. Someone needs to empty out 824 Broadway.

As the person who asked the question who is from Sycamore Twshp., I would like to remind everyone that jumped all over me that maybe you did not think this through all the way. Did it ever occur to you that I just recently moved here and this is my first election?
Geez....some people love to trample all over someone for trying to become more informed. I will tell you this though, as a YP in this city, it is about time to move. I have never seen such a more hillbilly, redneck, screwed up, backwards city than Cincinnati! I can not get over the people here who are just so damn mean and out for blood. I came from a VERY large city and you can run into anyone there and they are as friendly as can be. I have not found that here. No wonder YP's are moving out of here as fast as they can...

democracy cannot exist when voters's votes do not determine election results.
In this, the 21st C, Ohio citizens, we cannot allow, unforeseen conditions or other circumstance to choose our government.

Your reaction is exactly why this city is in such a stalling mode. It is because there are people like you who simply do not get it. If everyone who lives here and dies here (like most of the people in this city) never have new blood come, this will continue to be the oldest city with the same routine day in and day out.
There needs to be new blood infused into this city. There needs to be bars, restaurants, nightclubs, shopping, art and music downtown. Whenever that finally happens (has the Banks seriously taken you people 10 yrs to complete?!?!?!) then you might see this city become a crown jewel. Until then, it is NASCAR Sundays...

We want EDUCATED people in this city. People who are smart enough to know what township/city they live in, what county they live in and what they will be voting on before they actually go to the polls. If you can't figure that out, YOU are the hillbilly. Educate yourself, and then you will have some power and the right to sound off. Ignorance is a weakness.

Anon 4:02--

Cincinnati needs more bars and clubs?!?! More music and art?!?!

Are you serious?!?!

I hate to break it to you, but we are more than covered in each of those areas. If you were more involved in the community you would realize this.

Between Nothside, Clifton, Hyde Park, Oakley, Mt. Adams, Mt. Lookout, and Downtown, there is more nightlife / music than I can keep up with...

Have you not heard of the CAM, CAC, The Playhouse in the Park, the Know Theater, the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, the Cincinnati Ballet Co., or the Aronoff?

How about: First Friday (Cov.), Second Sunday, Final Friday, One World Wed. to name but a few regularly scheduled, monthly arts events....

What Cincinnati NEEDS is more people to support what others have worked so hard to establish so the artists, musicians, and bar owners have opportunity for growth, rather than the necessity to move due to lack of community support.

To echo previous comments:

We need to start educating ourselves! This past election was a JOKE on more levels than I can count. It was a joke because apparently people can not discern the difference between a city and a township. These are the same people who 'desire' change and yet voted in the SAME City Council candidates who are responsible for holding our city back! They voted AGAINST educateing our youth while simultaneously voting against a new jail...

My question now is where are we going to house all the up and coming criminals that fall through the cracks of a broken education system that the people are too cheap to repair? God knows there is no room for them in the jail...

I'm embarrassed to be a part of this city today!

Labrariangrrrl (comment above). I understand your embarrassement but don't give up. Continue to be part of the process and solution. Many feel the way that you do...Voters voted against the present school administration, not schools and children. And Issue 27 was a failure from the beginning. We DO need to focus on education and we DO need a jail but we need a better plan than what was offered on Nov. 6.
