Heimlich: I need a job

Today's Hamilton County Commission meeting was the last for Republican Phil Heimlich (pictured), defeated by David Pepper in the Nov. 7 election.

Heimlich took the opportunity at the close of the meeting to thanks lots of people for helping him in his four years on the commission -- after fellow commissioners Todd Portune and Pat DeWine spoke about Heimlich.

DeWine praised him for having the "guts" to take on issues -- like backing DeWine in a primary against then-fellow Republican Commissioner John Dowlin -- not many politicians would.

"Sometimes you don't get the credit for what you've done," DeWine said.

Portune lauded Heimlich for staying true to his beliefs even when politically unpopular and suspects Heimlich political career isn't over.

"My guess is this is not the end ... and we're going to see you resurface" on the political scene, Portune said.

It's been rumored that Heimlich could be talked into taking on U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Loveland, for the 2nd Congressional District race in two years. Heimlich's Symmes Township home is in the 2nd District.

Heimlich, though, said he has no clue what his future holds.

"The question everyone has been asking is 'What are you going to do?' I don't know short-term and I don't know long-term," Heimlich said.

Respect the will of the people. Go away. Far away. Now. We don't like you.

I cant for the life of me figure who would be worse between Heimlich or Schmidt

I second that comment - go away
(but his ego will never let him)
On the Cunningham show ( an embarassment of a show in Cincinnati) Heimlich blamed it on the Republican backlash - Heimlich is didn't get it when he was on the BOCC and he doesn't get as he snakes his way out of office.

Now let's see what Pepper has to offer and what these two Democrats can do with the absolute MESS the Republican Party has left this county in!

Enough of Heimlich's excuses about a backlash. Hamilton County returned most Republicans to office. They singled out Heimlich for removal because everyone has had it with him. Lots of Republicans crossed party lines to vote for Pepper because Heimlich is a one man wrecking crew.

Good riddance, Heimlich. Go away and get a job in the private sector that you love so much. You've spent your entire career being supported by the taxpayers, even as you denounced spending taxes. Walk your talk and see if anyone wants to pay you for your services.

Heimlich was only half right - "He has no clue".

Anyone who looks at the results knows that Heimlich was 5 to 10 points back of all the other state Republicans' numbers in the County--and even further back of Steve Chabot. Hasn't he noticed that he's about the only Republican who lost Hamilton County?

His excuses aren't fooling anyone.

When Heimlich left the Petro ticket, the cover story was that he was coming back to "hold" the county in Republican hands. The party made it sound like his reelection was a given.

Instead, he lost the commission seat. So why would anybody think that he should get a promotion to a federal job? Also, why would it be helpful to the Republican party to have two polarizing candidates tearing into each other in the primary in a district that almost went to a liberal Democrat?

Heimlich needs to face the reality that people don't want what he's selling.

Dear Hamilton County Democratic Party Leadership:

Jean Schmidt doesn't win in November. She wins when the WRONG Democrat wins the Democratic primary.

The 2nd Congressional District is a REPUBLICAN District and it is the Most Conservative Congressional District in Ohio. If you want to defeat Jean Schmidt, you need to give the Republican voters a candidate who they can seriously be expected to (maybe) vote for in a general election.

If you keep doing what you're doing, you will continue to lose this district. There is a reason that the Republican commission that drew the last lines for Congressional district reapportionment kept you in the 2nd district. They did it so that the Democrats would continue to lose.

Let's turn the clock forward to 2008. Suppose Hillary wins the Democratic primary and you give the Republican voters of the 2nd district a liberal, tax-raising, gay marriage, abortion candidate to vote for. The Republicans will come to the polls to vote against Hillary no matter who is running against her. Now, do you really expect those same Republicans to just vote for your next candidate of choice.

If you want the Democratic Party to win the most winnable Congressional District in America, you need to think differently. Or you can do what you have been doing and you, not the Republicans, YOU will re-elect Jean Schmidt.

The wrong Democrat will lose to Jean Schmidt, even if he has $10 million dollars.

Please don't re-elect Jean Schmidt again...

If the Democrats would run a candidate like Charlie Luken or John Cranley in the 2nd District they would by 10pts versus Schmidt and 5pts versus Heimlich.

Don't they understand this?

I am sure Phil Heimlich and his blue blood attitude would go over real well in the Eastern portions of the Second Congressional District.

He would be eaten alive by the good ole' boys.

Maybe Bob McEwen can hire him in his Virginia lobbying firm. We can get rid of two right-wing extremist haters.

Maybe they can take their twice-failed campaign staffs with them, too!

Hamilton County is fed up with Heimlich, Brinkman, Finney and COAST. When will they get the messege-WE DON'T WANT THEM!

Heimlich is not hurting for paying gigs. He has several "jobs" with family enterprises. Maybe now he can actually put in some time at his "jobs"...

Phil, go work a few real jobs for a while. Take the hint, and it is a Republican telling you this, people do not have a high opinion of you. Most people think you did not do very much as a county commissioner, they sure as hell are not going to back you for Congress. People don't want Schmidt and they don't want you either. You need Hamilton County to strongly come out for you and that's not going to happen. Remember you need Hamilton County votes to off-set the votes from the zombie followers in Clermont. If you cannot carry Hamilton County as a commissioner, you sure as hell are not going to carry it for Congress.

Also another suggestion, work with the party and not outside it as you have done in the past within your little group of supporters. You need the party more than they need you.

Ha,ha Heimlich! You got what you deserve...nothing! Maybe you could go get a job at (what used to be)Drake Hospital and take a good hard look at the mess you made there! By the way, what ever did happen to that bond money that the taxpayers approved for Drake and you denied them having?

at 9:20 AM, December 22, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jeez, well one thing Heimlich did was straighten out the abusive mess at Drake. Those people running the hospital were stealing money from the taxpayer. Overpaid, high salaries and bonuses at our expense. Thank God Heimlich put an end to that mess. Too many organizations in this county - hospitals, museums, etc. are sucking money from the public and forcing people to move to Clermont, Warren and Butler.

Phil, what part of "we don't want you" do you not understand? Maybe your buddy Finney will give you a job managing the real estate you two own. You know, the real estate you transfered to your wife's when it was discovered.

To all those people on this blog who think being a Democrat gives one some kind of moral, logical, and ethical superiority:

Your true colors are shining through on this blog.

You equate losing an election with being required to leave the county. Besides NAzi Germany, Stalin Soviet Union, and Mao's PRC, are there any other governments which advocated the forced uprooting of political opponents?

If the idea that someone who loses an election should leave the area, then your Democrat heroine, Eve Bolton, should be living on the Moon after losing elections for city council, state rep, county recorder, county commissioner, and county clerk of courts.

Even your sainted David Pepper should have left after Mark Mallory cleaned his clock.

I've given up on the GOP but there will be an NHL franchise in Mexico City before I'll go within a mile of a gathering of supposedly-peace-loving-and-tolerant Democrats.

To the Dems on this blog. I have no problem with people expressing their opinion but your personnal attacks are very old. You don't like someones politics so you trash them. I have many friends who believe differently then I do politically. Guess what it does not make them bad people. You all are proving that the democratic compassion does not exist. Your name calling, and trashing of peoples names is old and childish.

Please grow up!!!!

GET A GRIP! Most of these comments have NOTHING to do with being a Dem ...people just do NOT like Heimlich. I am NOT a Dem but voted for Pepper to get rid of Phil!
And for the record, the Bond for Drake had already passed so the monies were already coming out of our taxes paid. When Phil H put his big nose into it the only people who lost were those that were being helped by Drake and had to go elsewhere. I personally know Phil H could have cared less about those people. Maybe now, whomever is in office will care more about people and won't be out just for themselves!

....Yeah, your simple explanation would be nice if it were that simple but it isn't so.....

It is that simple, bubba !

If it were not, the wrong wingnut whackos would not have all those back-woods, riffle tote-ing, deliverance drivers squealing like pigs !

They vote against their own economic interest !

PATHETIC !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2007 !
