Mallory appoints father to SORTA board

Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory has appointed his father, William Mallory, Sr., to the nine-member board of trustees for the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA).

William Mallory served as a member of the Ohio House of Representativges for 28 years before retiring in 1994. He was the first African American majority floor leader and the first African American to preside over a session as Speaker of the House. Upon his retirement, Mallory held the record as the longest serving majority leader in Ohio's history and the longest serving Ohio House representative from Hamilton County.

Since his retirement, Mallory has been involved in many causes. He founded the Mallory Center for Community Development, a non-profit agency in Cincinnati. He also serves on the Ohio Elections Commission and has recently been appointed to the board of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati.

SORTA is the governing board of Metro and Access, non-profit public transit services that provide about 22 mililon rides per year in Greater Cincinnati.

Congratulations to Representative Mallory, a fine Gentleman. This is one of the few times where I won't scream about nepotism or cronyism, because Mallory is clarly qualified. (I can't believe that a Republican like me is saying this). Now for the obligatory negative comment: Dale Mallory fell too far from the tree.

Didn't Charlie put Tom on the SORTA board? So if you get to be Mayor, putting your Dad on the SORTA board is the replacement for buying a "World's Greatest Dad" t-shirt????

Still the city of legacies, we are. Charlie Luken put his telephone hurling father on the same board, I believe. He's used it as a pulpit to denounce the evil bus company.

I've never seen Tom Luken on a bus. I've seen Bill Mallory on the bus many times.

Maybe I'm just not riding the right route

So the incestous nepotism continues...

Get a Grip!
It's wonderful that a statesman of William Mallory's caliber is willing to lend the wisdom and experience he has had in government and in life - to the Board.
We should all be thrilled to have him "aboard"!
William Mallory is a great man - who really cares about people, Cincinnati and Ohio.
It is time to be greatfull - and say "Thank You"!

No wonder the dems can't win in Ohio. If Mallory is a "wonderful statesman"...

Well, at least the mayor has that accomplishment.

Do any of the SORTA board members actually ride public transit on a regular basis?
