Schmidt-Wulsin debates: Round 3

First, it was Victoria Wulsin challenging her marathon-running opponent, Jean Schmidt, to a 5-K race and a pledge to debate seven times in the seven counties of the 2nd Congressional District.

Then it was Schmidt telling Wulsin (in effect) the two of them would perform all the singing parts in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers before there would be seven debates in seven counties. What's more, she dismissed Wulsin's invitation to race her in the "Race for the Cure" for breast cancer research and upped the ante by challenging her to take her on in an Aug. 27 half-marathon (that's 13 miles) in Morrow.

At first, Wulsin communications director Ady Barkan said his candidate wasn't interested in a half-marathon. But, Wednesday, Wulsin said she would run in the half-marathon, but only if Schmidt agrees to the seven debates.

Bottom line: You are more likely to see the two of them push peanuts with their noses across a barn floor in Adams County than you are to see a Wulsin-Schmidt foot race of any distance. Same goes for seven debates in seven counties.

How would people respond if Vic Wulsin held 7 debates in 7 counties with a Jean Schmidt stand-in? It could prove be quite comical and yet quite sad at the same time.

Why does Jean Schmidt, the woman who supposedly represents us in Congress, have such fear of debating Vic Wulsin (or anybody who runs against her for that matter)?

Maybe it's easier to call somebody a "liberal" from a distance than it is to talk about the issues. Maybe it's easier to avoid the issues than it is to talk about her own positions.

Not every Democrat is a liberal. But even some of the most liberal Democrats share many of the same ideas and values as Conservative Republicans. "We are all people and we all have the same problems."

Vic Wulsin has raised a great family. That doesn't happen by accident. It requires a strong sense of family values and for that, Doctor Wulsin should be proud!

When did supporting abortion and gay marriage become "family values"?

Why are women's issues about choosing a National issue for Congrssional candidates? The Supreme Court ruled that it is a State's issue and should be sorted out at the state level. This has no bearing on a Congressional candidates stance, since this person will serve in our Federal Government.

Also, what does "gay marriage" have to do with national/federal issues. The State of Ohio voted on this issue last year and passed the ban on "gay marriage". Again, a state issue ... not a federal issue. These are federal candidates, not state candidates.

Of course, this still brings up the ultimate point of "Who belongs in my/family issues of abortion or marriage?" Certainly not any governmental body. Look at this from a privacy stance and I want the government out of my decisions for health care and whom I choose to live with. Look at this from a moral issue and let the values your parents gave to you to make your own decision ... its called free thinking and all the government wants to do is decide for us.

Come on Jean, just debate ... you supposedly own this market for Republicanism. It sounds like it would be a slam-dunk for, but you continue to show your lack of support for your constituents.

Gay marriage IS a state issue, not a federal one. That has already been decided by voters who reside in Ohio, not politicians who frolic in Washington DC.

Let me ask everybody who hides behind these issues something. We have a Republican President, a Republican Vice President, a Republican Senate, a Republican Senate, a Republican (appointed) US Supreme Court, and a majority of American Governors are Republican.

Yet we still have gay marriage, abortion and a tax code that doesn't work.

If you want solutions to the REAL issues and problems in America, you need to look to a different political party.

The Republican Party's focus on these issues has proven to be nothing more than a political distraction; a ploy to get votes.

Vic Wulsin, stand up for what is right in America and many people will follow.

This message is from a person who really cares about the people who live in Southern Ohio.

Excelsior here. We're at war. We don't need another damned Democrat lining up with silly Cindy Sheehan, Barbara Streisand, Jack Murtha and that San Francisco radical feminist socialist, Nancy Pelosi, representing the Second District and telling our people that we must cut and run in the middle of the very important and difficult Iraq phase of the global war against Islamic Fascism. The only thing I like about Victoria Wulsin is her classy first name. Other than that, I want nothing whatsoever to do with her. I daresay that my sentiments will be overwhelmingly shared by a big majority of my fellow Second District citizens in November.
